Best Pickleball Sets: 8 Picks Compared

The short answer

Pickleheads names the SLK Neo 2.0 set its pick “for most players” (its 2023 paddle review tested the SX3 core; this set lists SX4), calls the GoSports GS1 set its “top recommendation” for a pair who do not want to spend a lot, and the JoncAye BLITZ four-pack covers four people with paddles, indoor and outdoor balls and a bag (Business Insider’s “Best budget” pick is the two-paddle BLITZ set).

Our verdict

Our Top Picks

A “pickleball set” can mean two different purchases. In the Google results we read for this phrase, the top pages are mostly paddle sets: two or four paddles with balls, and often a bag. A smaller group are net sets, which add a portable net. This guide covers the first kind, paddle-and-ball sets. If you want a net in the box, start with our guide to pickleball net sets; none of the eight sets below includes one.

Sets trade paddle quality for convenience, and the reviewers say so. Pickleheads, whose set guide is the top result, writes that “Generally, these bundles don’t pack the best pickleball paddles, but they do offer convenience for newcomers just getting into the sport or one-stop-shop upgrades to keep you in the game, provided you go for one that’s a good quality.” So this guide compares what is in the box, exactly as each maker or listing states it, along with each paddle’s core and weight, its entry on the USA Pickleball approved list, and who sells the Amazon listing. Eight sets from seven brands made the cut, and every one is sold on Amazon.

Price tier

Tiers are relative to the sets in this guide; live prices are in the comparison table below.

What to check in a paddle set

What is in the box. Sets differ more than their titles suggest: two paddles for a pair or four for a group, a different number of balls, a sling bag, a carry case or no bag at all, and extras such as spare grip tape. Each review’s spec box lists “In the box” as the maker states it, and says so where the maker’s page and the Amazon listing disagree.

The balls. Some makers name the ball (GoSports’ GS 40, JOOLA’s Primo, Onix’s Fuse) and some do not. Balls come in indoor and outdoor versions, which are different balls; our guide to the types of pickleball balls explains the difference, and our pickleball balls guide compares balls on their own. One r/Pickleball owner of the JoncAye set recommends “buying other balls, as the ones that come with the set aren’t great”, so treat the balls in a set as a starter supply.

Approval. USA Pickleball keeps an approved-paddle list and an approved-ball list. A listing that says “USAPA approved” is not the list, so we looked up each paddle on the list on October 21, 2026 and quote the entry and the date it was added. Where a maker says its balls are approved, we checked the ball list too.

Core and weight. Pickleball Effect’s beginner guide says players just starting are “better off with 16mm paddles because they offer bigger sweet spots than thinner 14mm builds”. None of the paddles in these sets lists a 16 mm core: where a thickness is stated it runs from about 10 mm to 13 mm. Pickleheads sorts paddle weight into lightweight (7.6 oz and under), midweight (7.6 to 8.2 oz) and heavyweight (8.2 oz and over); the sets here range from 7 oz to 8.2 oz per paddle as the makers list them.

A set or a single paddle. If you are buying for one person, a single paddle chosen on its own may suit you better; our guides to beginner pickleball paddles and pickleball paddles for every level, and our walk-through of what to look for in a beginner pickleball paddle, cover that route. A set earns its place when two or four people need paddles at once.

The table lists the exact variant each Amazon link opens. Weights are per paddle, as the maker or listing states them, and “Not published” means the maker gives none. “Approved” quotes the entry on the USA Pickleball approved-paddle list as we read it on October 21, 2026, with the date added.

SLK Neo 2.0 set of 2

graphite · 13 mm

Two people starting together who want a paddle set from Selkirk, with a bag and balls included.

$89.99 from AmazonAs of Oct 23, 18:26 UTC

Verdict

A two-paddle set from Selkirk’s SLK line with outdoor balls and a sling bag; Pickleheads names it its pick for most players among paddle sets, though its 2023 paddle review tested the SX3 core and this set lists SX4.

Evidence: Independently reviewed, previous generation. Pickleheads: SLK Neo 2.0 set (core not stated).

Pickleheads’ paddle-set guide ranks the SLK Neo 2.0 number one and writes “The best pickleball set for most players is the SLK NEO 2.0, a full set with great beginner paddles from premium brand Selkirk.” It scores the paddles 9 of 10 for forgiveness, 7 for control and 6 each for power and spin, and describes the box as two paddles, a bag and three balls. Pickleheads’ separate Neo 2.0 paddle review covers the version with Selkirk’s SX3 core and lists “Has a nice pop but lacks more overall power” among its cons. The set guide, updated October 2026, names no core, and its pick links the Red & Blue Neo Graphite set (B01F7VC6MQ), a colour sibling of the listing we link. The set we link says it has the “improved Polymer SX4 13mm Core”, so we cannot tell whether the set guide’s praise covers SX3 or SX4.

Selkirk’s own site no longer sells this graphite set, so the specs here come from Selkirk’s Amazon listing. In the box: two paddles, three outdoor pickleballs and a sling bag; the listing does not name the balls. The USA Pickleball list has two “Neo Graphite” entries. We match this set to the one added 06/01/2023, which lists a polypropylene core 13 mm deep, as the listing’s 13 mm core does; the older entry, added 03/18/2020, lists a polymer core and a different depth. Both list the face as carbon fiber and fiberglass, where the listing says graphite. The Amazon listing family holds eleven colour and face variants, including fiberglass and raw-carbon Neo sets that are different paddles; the link here opens the graphite set in Green & Purple. Selkirk Sport, the brand’s own Amazon storefront, sells and ships it through Amazon, and Amazon showed only a few left when we checked.

Specs (linked variant: SLK Neo 2.0 set of 2, graphite, Green & Purple)

  • Core: 13 mm SX4 polymer honeycomb (Selkirk’s Amazon listing)
  • Weight: 7.5 oz per paddle (Selkirk’s Amazon listing)
  • Face: G4 Control graphite with SpinFlex texture (Selkirk’s Amazon listing); carbon fiber and fiberglass (USA Pickleball list)
  • Handle and grip: 5.25 in handle, 4.25 in circumference (Selkirk’s Amazon listing)
  • In the box: two paddles, three outdoor pickleballs, sling bag
  • Approval: USA Pickleball list, “Neo Graphite”, added 06/01/2023 (13 mm polypropylene; matches the listing’s 13 mm depth); an older “Neo Graphite” entry, added 03/18/2020, lists a polymer core and a different depth
  • Seller: Selkirk Sport storefront, shipped by Amazon

Pros

  • A full set that Pickleheads names its pick for most players among paddle sets
  • Pickleheads scores forgiveness 9 of 10
  • A sling bag and three outdoor balls in the box

Cons

  • Pickleheads’ 2023 paddle review (SX3 core) lists “Has a nice pop but lacks more overall power” among its cons
  • Pickleheads’ 2023 paddle review tested the SX3 core; this set lists SX4, and its set guide names no core
  • A 13 mm core, thinner than Pickleball Effect’s 16 mm advice

13 mm honeycomb

A pair that wants two paddles and two outdoor balls in the lower price tier and already has something to carry them in.

$49.98 from AmazonAs of Oct 23, 18:26 UTC

Verdict

Two light fiberglass paddles and two outdoor balls, with no bag; Pickleheads names it its “top recommendation” for a pair who do not want to spend a lot.

Evidence: Independently reviewed, exact model. Pickleheads: GoSports GS1 set (two paddles, two outdoor balls).

Pickleheads’ paddle-set guide writes “If you’re eager to hit the courts with a partner but you don’t want to spend a lot of money, the GoSports GS1 set is my top recommendation.” It adds “The balls are good quality too.” Its separate GS1 paddle review scores it 3.5 stars and finds “good pop and decent spin potential”. The same review lists “Less forgiving than some beginner paddles, leading to more mishits” and “Not as long-lasting as more expensive paddles” among the cons; the set guide, by contrast, scores its forgiveness 8 of 10 and writes “Forgiveness and control are its best qualities”. GoSports lists the set as two GS1 paddles and “2 GS 40 USAPA approved outdoor pickleball balls”, a 13 mm honeycomb core, a textured fiberglass face, 7 oz per paddle and a 15.75 by 8 inch face. It lists no bag.

The USA Pickleball list shows the GS 1 with a depth of 12.5 mm, where GoSports says 13 mm; we print both. The GS 40 ball is on the ball list as an outdoor ball, added 04/21/2023. GoSports’ warranty is six months, according to the listing. Amazon.com sells and ships this two-pack.

Specs (linked variant: GoSports GS1 set of 2, One Size, 2 Pack)

  • Core: 13 mm honeycomb (maker); 12.5 mm and polypropylene on the USA Pickleball list
  • Weight: 7 oz per paddle (maker)
  • Face: textured fiberglass
  • Shape and size: 15.75 x 8 in (maker)
  • Handle and grip: 4.25 in (the maker calls it the handle size; Amazon lists a 4.25 in grip)
  • In the box: two paddles, two GS 40 outdoor balls; no bag
  • Approval: USA Pickleball list, “GS 1”, added 07/01/2023; ball list, “GS 40” (outdoor), added 04/21/2023
  • Seller: Amazon.com

Pros

  • Pickleheads’ top recommendation for a pair who do not want to spend a lot
  • Light at 7 oz per paddle (maker), with balls whose approval we confirmed on the ball list
  • Sold and shipped by Amazon.com

Cons

  • No bag in the box
  • Pickleheads’ pages disagree on forgiveness: the set guide scores it 8 of 10 and writes “Forgiveness and control are its best qualities”, while the GS1 review scores it 7 of 10 and lists “Less forgiving than some beginner paddles, leading to more mishits” as a con
  • A six-month warranty, shorter than the one-year warranties on several other sets here

JoncAye BLITZ set of 4

10 mm

A family or group of four that wants one box of paddles with both indoor and outdoor balls and a bag.

$56.95 from AmazonAs of Oct 23, 18:26 UTC

Verdict

Four fiberglass paddles with two outdoor and two indoor balls, tapes and a bag; Business Insider’s paddle guide names the two-paddle BLITZ set its “Best budget” pick.

Evidence: Independently reviewed, same series. Business Insider: JoncAye BLITZ two-paddle set.

Business Insider’s paddle guide, which says it recruited eight players to help test, lists the two-paddle JoncAye Blitz set as “Best budget” and writes “Whether you’re a newcomer who wants to learn the ropes of pickleball or a more seasoned player who just doesn’t want to spend a lot on gear or wants a solid backup set, the JoncAye Blitz paddles are a great option.” Its writer bought them first and says they “held up surprisingly well over the course of two years”, while noting “the smooth fiberglass surface (which doesn’t offer much spin potential)”. Business Insider reviewed the two-paddle BLITZ set, which comes with four balls and a drawstring bag; the set we link has four of the same BLITZ paddles. On r/Pickleball, one owner in a thread about sets for four beginners writes “Love the joncaye set from Amazon. They’re great beginner paddles,” and adds that the balls in the set “aren’t great”.

JoncAye lists the box as four fiberglass paddles, two outdoor and two indoor balls, four tapes and one bag; its contents line calls the tapes lead tapes, its grip line calls them grip tapes, and Amazon’s details list overgrips, so we say four tapes. Amazon also lists ball-retrieving stickers and a mesh ball bag. The maker gives the thickness as 10 mm, Amazon as 11 mm and the USA Pickleball list as 9.8 mm. JoncAye’s own page showed this set as sold out when we read it. The Amazon listing is sold by “JoncAye Sports”, a storefront that carries the maker’s name and ships through Amazon; we could not confirm it is JoncAye’s own account.

Specs (linked variant: JoncAye BLITZ set of 4, Blue, Pink, Green and Yellow)

  • Core: polypropylene honeycomb; 10 mm (maker), 11 mm (Amazon), 9.8 mm (USA Pickleball list)
  • Weight: 8 oz per paddle (maker)
  • Face: fiberglass
  • Handle and grip: 4.25 in grip (maker)
  • In the box: four paddles, two outdoor and two indoor balls, four tapes, one bag
  • Approval: USA Pickleball list, “BLITZ”, added 09/09/2023
  • Seller: JoncAye Sports (brand-named storefront, not confirmed as the maker’s own; ships from Amazon)

Pros

  • Four paddles, four balls and a bag in one box, with both indoor and outdoor balls
  • Business Insider’s “Best budget” pick in its two-paddle version, from a writer who used the paddles for two years
  • Tapes, ball-retrieving stickers and a mesh ball bag, per Amazon’s details

Cons

  • Business Insider notes the smooth face offers little spin potential
  • An owner suggests buying other balls
  • Thickness differs by source: 10 mm, 11 mm and 9.8 mm

MTEN MT-01 set of 4

Not published

A group of four that wants outdoor balls and a bag in the box and is comfortable with a larger grip.

$45.99 from AmazonAs of Oct 23, 18:26 UTC

Verdict

Four fiberglass paddles with four outdoor balls, four grip tapes and a carry bag; the one independent review we found likes the design and grip and is lukewarm on how the paddle plays.

Evidence: Independently reviewed, same series. BePickleballer: MTEN-01 paddle set (pack size not stated).

BePickleballer bought the MTEN set (model MTEN-01, which it lists at 7.78 to 8.11 ounces with a 4.57-inch grip) and reports “a nice bag, and 4 outdoor balls”. It writes “The grip felt higher quality than I expected, and I could maneuver the ball well,” and that of the many fiberglass Amazon paddles it owns, it “liked the MTEN’s design the best”. It is less keen on the play: “I still don’t love how this paddle plays,” and “There’s no grit on these paddles that allow for control or spin.” It also writes “I am not sure whether it’s worth the money unless it’s the lowest cost option,” noting how similar generic Amazon paddle sets look. That review does not say whether it bought the set of two or four, so we grade it as the same paddle, not this exact pack.

MTEN’s own site publishes no product pages, so the contents and specs come from MTEN’s Amazon listing: four paddles, four outdoor pickleballs, four grip tapes and one carry bag, a fiberglass face over a polypropylene honeycomb core, about 7.8 oz each and a 4.57-inch grip, wider than the 4 to 4.25 inches on the other sets that list one. The listing does not give a core thickness. The USA Pickleball list shows the MT-01, added 04/28/2023. The listing is sold by “MTEN Store”, a storefront that carries the brand’s name and ships through Amazon; we could not confirm it is MTEN’s own account.

Specs (linked variant: MTEN MT-01 set of 4, Black x 4)

  • Core: polypropylene honeycomb; thickness not published (MTEN’s Amazon listing)
  • Weight: about 7.8 oz per paddle (MTEN’s Amazon listing)
  • Face: fiberglass
  • Handle and grip: 4.57 in grip circumference (MTEN’s Amazon listing)
  • In the box: four paddles, four outdoor pickleballs, four grip tapes, one carry bag
  • Approval: USA Pickleball list, “MT-01”, added 04/28/2023
  • Seller: MTEN Store (brand-named storefront, not confirmed as the maker’s own; ships from Amazon)

Pros

  • Four paddles, four outdoor balls and a carry bag in one set
  • BePickleballer liked the grip and the design
  • Grip tapes included for replacement

Cons

  • BePickleballer does not love how the paddle plays and sees no grit on the face
  • No core thickness published
  • The 4.57-inch grip is larger than the others here that list one

Who should buy it

Onix Z1 Starter Kit

12 mm

A pair, or a gift buyer, who wants a paddle-brand kit with a case and does not need independent test results.

$96.02 from AmazonAs of Oct 23, 18:26 UTC

Verdict

Two composite-face paddles and four Fuse balls in a carry case from Onix; there is no independent review of it in our sources.

Evidence: No independent test; maker specs. Source: Onix product pages.

Onix describes the kit as “two Onix Z1 pickleball paddles, four Onix Fuse pickleball balls, all in an easy to carry case”, pitched at learners and as a “paddles and balls pickleball gift set”. Its Z1 paddle page lists a composite face over a polypropylene core, 12 mm thick, 7.5 to 8.2 ounces, 16 by 7.875 inches in a tapered shape, with a 5-inch tennis-shaped handle. The grip is 4.125 inches around in Onix’s spec table and “4 1/4” in its bullet text, so we give both. Onix says the paddles are USA Pickleball approved; the list shows the “Onix Z1”, added 05/03/2022, with a fiberglass face where Onix says composite.

Onix says its Fuse balls “create consistency between both indoor and outdoor games”, but sells Fuse in indoor and outdoor versions and does not say which one is in the kit, so we claim no ball approval for it. We found no independent review of the kit or the Z1; the evidence is the maker’s own pages. Amazon.com sells and ships this listing; Onix’s site sells two versions of the kit under different product codes, with the same contents; the quotes above are from the “-v2” page, while the first version’s page words it “two Onix Z1 paddles” and has no gift line.

Specs (linked variant: Onix Z1 Starter Kit)

  • Core: polypropylene, 12 mm (Onix paddle page)
  • Weight: 7.5 to 8.2 oz per paddle (maker)
  • Face: composite (maker); fiberglass (USA Pickleball list)
  • Shape and size: tapered, 16 x 7.875 in (maker)
  • Handle and grip: 5 in handle; 4.125 in grip circumference (maker’s spec table) or 4 1/4 in (maker’s bullet)
  • In the box: two paddles, four Fuse balls (version not stated), carry case
  • Approval: USA Pickleball list, “Onix Z1”, added 05/03/2022
  • Seller: Amazon.com

Pros

  • Two paddles, four balls and a carry case in one kit
  • A paddle from Onix with a 12 mm core listed by the maker
  • Sold and shipped by Amazon.com

Cons

  • No independent review in our sources
  • The maker does not say which Fuse ball is in the kit
  • Maker figures for the grip differ between its spec table and its bullet text

JOOLA Essentials set

12 mm

A pair, or a gift buyer, who wants named balls and a sling bag from a known paddle brand and is happy to pay in the upper tier for it.

$129.95 from AmazonAs of Oct 23, 18:26 UTC

Verdict

Two fiberglass paddles, two JOOLA Primo balls and a sling bag, with a 12 mm core and an average weight of 8.2 oz; the evidence is owner reports, not a test of the set.

Evidence: No independent test; owner reports. r/Pickleball owners: Essentials paddle (not the set).

JOOLA lists “Two JOOLA Essentials Pickleball Paddles, two JOOLA Primo Balls, and a JOOLA Essentials Sling Bag”, a fiberglass abrasion surface, a 12 mm core, an 8.2-ounce average weight, a 15.5 by 7.9 inch face, a 4.75-inch ridge grip that is 4 inches around, and USA Pickleball approval. The USA Pickleball list shows the “Essentials” paddle, added 02/02/2022, and the “JOOLA Primo” as an outdoor ball, added 03/20/2022. JOOLA’s own page showed the set out of stock when we read it; Amazon.com had it in stock. The Amazon listing’s attribute fields are inconsistent (they say table tennis and one paddle), but its title and bullets and JOOLA’s page describe the set, and the variant selector assigns this ASIN to “Essentials Set”.

We found no independent test of the set. In an r/Pickleball thread comparing the JOOLA Essentials with the Onix Z5, one owner wrote “Way more control and feel with the Joola” and another “I’d go with the Joola out of these two. I don’t like their 6 month warranty, though.” The Amazon listing gives a 180-day warranty. Those are owners’ views of the paddle, not of this set.

Specs (linked variant: JOOLA Essentials Set)

  • Core: 12 mm (maker); Response polypropylene honeycomb (Amazon listing)
  • Weight: 8.2 oz average per paddle (maker)
  • Face: fiberglass with abrasion texture (maker)
  • Shape and size: 15.5 x 7.9 in (maker)
  • Handle and grip: 4.75 in ridge grip length, 4 in circumference (maker)

Pros

  • Two paddles, two named balls and a sling bag in one set
  • A JOOLA paddle and ball whose list entries we confirmed
  • A 4-inch grip circumference (maker), against 4.25 inches on several other sets

Cons

  • The upper price tier in this guide
  • No independent test; the evidence is owner reports
  • The warranty is 180 days on the Amazon listing

JOOLA Seneca Onset set

12 mm

A pair that wants a textured fiberglass face in a JOOLA set and is comfortable choosing without a published weight.

$99.95 from AmazonAs of Oct 23, 18:26 UTC

Verdict

Two 12 mm paddles with a sandblasted fiberglass face, four JOOLA balls and a sling bag, listed by JOOLA as a beginner-friendly set; no weight is published and no independent review exists in our sources.

Evidence: No independent test; maker specs. Source: JOOLA’s Amazon listing.

JOOLA’s Amazon listing describes the box as “(2) JOOLA Seneca pickleball paddles, (4) JOOLA engineered pickleballs, and (1) JOOLA Sling bag”. It calls the paddles a “12mm” set with a “Fiberglass face with added grit” and “Cool Press construction”, and says an NFC chip in each paddle links to the JOOLA Connect app and a 12-month warranty. JOOLA’s own site does not list this set, so the listing is our only maker-side source, and it gives no weight. Its overview table lists carbon fiber, while its bullet and the USA Pickleball list say fiberglass; we follow the bullet and the list. The listing does not say whether the balls are indoor or outdoor.

The USA Pickleball list shows “Seneca Onset”, added 11/20/2025, a polypropylene core 12 mm deep with a fiberglass face and a textured finish. We found no independent review of this set or paddle, so it is graded on maker specs only. Amazon.com sells and ships this listing.

Verdict

Two paddles, four outdoor balls, a carry bag and two spare grip tapes from Amazon’s own brand, with conflicting sources on whether the face is carbon fiber or fiberglass.

Evidence: No independent test; maker specs. Source: Amazon’s listing.

Amazon’s listing says the set includes “two paddles in sleek Black design, four outdoor balls, carry bag, and two comfortable grips”, with “4 durable 40-hole pickleballs” and “1 versatile carry bag with mesh pocket for accessories”. It gives a weight of “7.8oz (±0.3oz)” and a thickness of 0.47 inches, about 12 mm. The sources disagree on the face: the listing title and a bullet say carbon fiber, while its attribute table says fiberglass and the USA Pickleball list shows fiberglass faces on both of the brand’s entries. The list has two Amazon Basics paddles, “AB-01” (added 08/05/2025) and “AB-02” (added 10/16/2025), both 12 mm honeycomb with fiberglass faces. The listing’s model number is SZX-AB01, which matches the “AB-01” entry by name, so we read AB-01 as this set’s entry. We found no independent review, so the grade is maker specs only; Amazon is both brand and seller here.

Specs (linked variant: Amazon Basics set of 2, Black)

  • Core: polypropylene honeycomb, 0.47 in thick (Amazon’s listing)
  • Weight: 7.8 oz, plus or minus 0.3 (Amazon’s listing)
  • Face: carbon fiber (listing title); fiberglass (listing attribute table and USA Pickleball list)
  • Handle and grip: 4 in grip (Amazon’s listing)
  • In the box: two paddles, four outdoor 40-hole balls, one carry bag, two grip tapes
  • Approval: USA Pickleball list, “AB-01”, added 08/05/2025 (the listing’s model number is SZX-AB01); a second Amazon Basics entry, “AB-02”, was added 10/16/2025
  • Seller: Amazon.com

Pros

  • Two paddles, four balls, a bag and spare grip tapes in one set
  • Sold and shipped by Amazon.com, under Amazon’s own brand
  • A USA Pickleball list entry, “AB-01”, that matches the listing’s model number SZX-AB01 by name

Cons

  • No independent review in our sources
  • The listing and the USA Pickleball list disagree on the face material
  • The match to the list rests on the model number, SZX-AB01, matching “AB-01” by name

Which set for which buyer

Two people starting together. Six of the eight sets are pair sets. Picks: the Neo 2.0 set for a bag and three balls from Selkirk, the GS1 set if you already have a bag, the Onix Z1 kit for a case, and the JOOLA Essentials, the Seneca Onset and the Amazon Basics set for sling bags or carry bags.

Four people, or a family. Picks: the JoncAye BLITZ four-pack and the MTEN four-pack. Both are full-size adult paddles. The child-size set we looked at, Helium’s two-pack, was out of stock on Amazon when we checked, so no child-size set is in this guide.

A gift. Onix pitches its kit as a “paddles and balls pickleball gift set”, and JOOLA’s Essentials listing and Amazon’s own listing both pitch their sets as gifts. Picks: the Onix Z1 kit, the JOOLA Essentials set, the Amazon Basics set.

A bag or case in the box. Every set here has one except the GS1. Picks with a sling bag: the Neo set, the JOOLA Essentials, the Seneca Onset; with a case or carry bag: the Onix kit, the MTEN set, the JoncAye set, the Amazon Basics set.

Indoor and outdoor balls. The JoncAye set includes two of each. Onix says its Fuse balls suit both, but does not say which version is in the kit. The others list outdoor balls or do not say. Our guide to the types of pickleball balls covers the difference.

A textured face. The GS1 lists a textured fiberglass face, the Seneca Onset a sandblasted one and the JOOLA Essentials an abrasion surface; Business Insider calls the JoncAye’s face smooth.

You want a net as well. None of these sets includes one; see the net-set guide linked at the top of this page.

How we chose these sets

How this guide was built

built from manufacturer documentation, published third-party reviews and owner reports; we have not tested these products ourselves.

What we weighed

  • Fit with the keyword: a paddle set sold on Amazon that includes balls, with the contents stated as the maker or its listing states them.
  • Contents, exactly: paddle count, ball count and type, bag or case and extras, from the maker’s page where it has one and otherwise from the maker’s Amazon listing, with disagreements stated.
  • Core thickness and per-paddle weight as the maker lists them; “not published” where it gives none. Amazon’s item-weight field is a shipping weight and is not used.
  • The USA Pickleball approved-paddle list entry for each paddle, and the approved-ball list entry where the maker claims approved balls, read on October 21, 2026.
  • Price tier relative to the other sets, never a typed price; the live Amazon price is in the boxes.
  • Who sells the Amazon listing: every pick is new and in stock, and we name the seller in each review. Amazon.com sells and ships five of the eight; Selkirk Sport (the brand’s storefront), “MTEN Store” and “JoncAye Sports” sell the others. Sets we looked at and did not pick: the niupipo four-pack (we could not identify its paddles’ USA Pickleball entry from the listing), the PRO-SPIN set (its listing model did not match a list entry with certainty), the HEAD Kickstarter set (its paddle was not on the approved-paddle list when we searched), Helium’s kids’ set (out of stock) and Franklin’s sets (not assessed for this guide; we will look at them in its next update).

As far as we could tell, none of these sites sells the products it reviews. Maker pages: GoSports, JoncAye, Onix, JOOLA; the Neo, MTEN, Seneca Onset and Amazon Basics specs are from their Amazon listings, labelled as such. Approval entries are from the USA Pickleball approved-paddle list and approved-ball list. Stock and sellers were read on Amazon on October 21, 2026. Search results were read through Serper.

What r/Pickleball tells set buyers

Owners split. In a thread about sets for four beginners, the top-voted reply says “Any beginner set is fine. Learning the basics will not be affected by brand or quality.” In a thread asking for a set to start with, another owner says “In general, most even decent paddles are not sold as sets.” In a third thread, set recommendations, a top-level reply says: “Just spend 100ish on a paddle and avoid the sets unless you want to play with someone then wait for Friday to go on sale 2 paddles for 100.” The names that come up for sets are the Selkirk SLK sets and the JoncAye. These are owners’ views, quoted as owners’ views, not tests.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is in a pickleball set?

It varies. The eight sets here come with two or four paddles, two to four balls (the JoncAye set has two outdoor and two indoor), and a sling bag, carry bag or case; the GoSports GS1 set has no bag. Several add spare grip tape. The review spec boxes list the contents as each maker states them.

Q. Is a pickleball set worth buying, or should I buy paddles separately?

Reviewers are split. Pickleheads says bundles generally do not include a top paddle but offer convenience for newcomers, provided the set is good quality, and r/Pickleball owners range from “Any beginner set is fine” to advice to skip sets and buy one better paddle, or, for two players, wait for a paddle maker’s two-paddle deal. A set earns its place when two or four people need paddles at the same time; for one person, see our guide to beginner pickleball paddles.

Q. Which pickleball set suits a beginner pair?

Pickleheads names the SLK Neo 2.0 set its pick for most players and the GoSports GS1 set its top recommendation for a pair who do not want to spend a lot. The other pair sets here are the Onix Z1 kit, the two JOOLA sets and the Amazon Basics set, with less independent evidence behind them.

Q. Are the paddles in these sets USA Pickleball approved?

We found a list entry for the paddle in every set. The date each was added is in the table. The Neo has two “Neo Graphite” entries; we match it to the one added 06/01/2023 by its 13 mm depth, and the older entry (03/18/2020) lists a different depth. Both list the face as carbon fiber and fiberglass, where the listing says graphite. Amazon Basics has two entries (“AB-01” and “AB-02”); the listing’s model number is SZX-AB01, which matches “AB-01” by name. Check the list again before a sanctioned event, because entries change.

Q. Do these sets include a net?

No. All eight are paddle-and-ball sets. For a portable net with paddles, see the net-set guide linked at the top of this page.

Q. What balls come in these sets?

The GoSports set has two GS 40 outdoor balls, the JOOLA Essentials set two JOOLA Primo balls (outdoor on the ball list), and the Onix kit four Fuse balls. The Neo set has three outdoor balls, the MTEN and Amazon Basics sets four outdoor balls, the JoncAye set two outdoor and two indoor, and the Seneca Onset set four JOOLA balls with the type not stated. One JoncAye owner suggests buying other balls.

Q. How much should I spend on a pickleball set?

Price follows what is in the box as much as paddle quality, because two paddles and four paddles are different purchases. Four of these sets are in the lower tier, three in the middle and one in the upper, relative to each other; the live Amazon price is in the table. Compare the contents and the evidence behind each set rather than the tier alone.

Q. Which set suits kids or a family?

The two four-paddle sets, the JoncAye BLITZ and the MTEN, suit a family of four; both are full-size adult paddles. We found no child-size set in stock on Amazon to include.

The bottom line

Final Verdict

Choose the SLK Neo 2.0 set (check price) if you want a bag and three balls from Selkirk and accept that Pickleheads’ set guide does not say which core it tested (its 2023 paddle review tested SX3; this set lists SX4). Choose the GoSports GS1 set (check price) for a pair in the lower price tier that already has a bag. Choose the JoncAye BLITZ four-pack (check price) for four people, with indoor and outdoor balls in the box, and the MTEN set of four (check price) for four outdoor balls and a carry bag if you are comfortable with a larger grip. The Onix Z1 Starter Kit (check price) suits a pair or a gift buyer who wants a case, the JOOLA Essentials set (check price) a pair who want named balls and a sling bag in the upper tier, the JOOLA Seneca Onset set (check price) a pair who want a textured face from JOOLA, and the Amazon Basics set (check price) a pair who want spare grip tape in the lower tier. If you want a net, start with our guide to pickleball net sets; if you want one better paddle rather than a set, our guide to paddles for every level is the next stop.
