The short answer
Take CRBN Lead Tape Strips for twelve pre-cut 3 g lead strips that a named reviewer recommends, the Pickleball Effect Tungsten Weighted Tape for a tungsten roll you cut to length at 0.5 g per inch, and the Tourna Pickleball Lead Tape for a quarter-inch lead roll its maker sells for paddles.
Our verdict
Top Picks
Lead tape is adhesive metal tape you stick to a paddle’s edge to add weight where you want it. This guide compares ten weighting tapes you can buy new on Amazon today: seven lead tapes and three tungsten tapes, sold as pre-cut strips or as a roll you cut to length. For each one we give the width, the length or strip count and the weight per inch or per strip as its maker states them, with “not published” where the maker gives no figure.
Three things shape the list. Every figure is the maker’s, dated to the day we read it (22 October 2026), or is labelled as coming from the maker’s Amazon listing, a retailer or an owner. Every pick names the exact listing the link opens, because several of these tapes come in more than one width, weight or pack size. And every pick is sold new on Amazon: three by Amazon.com, six by the brand’s own Amazon storefront and one by a third-party seller that each review names.

Every figure in the table is the maker’s, read on 22 October 2026, unless it says “listing” (the maker’s own Amazon listing) or “not published”. We do not work out a weight per inch from a strip’s weight and size, and we do not compare tapes on price.

How We Chose These Ten Tapes
How this guide was built
from the makers’ product pages and Amazon listings, two published guides (Pickleheads and Pickleball Studio), a retailer’s guide and product page (Pickleball Central) and owner comments on r/Pickleball; we have not tested these products ourselves.
What we compared
- Material as the maker names it: lead or tungsten. Tapes made of other materials, such as Pickleball Effect’s separate Paddle Tuning Tape and Bodhi’s PROtune tape, which its listing calls an “Iron Oxide-Coated Polymer”, are outside this guide.
- Format: pre-cut strips of a set weight, or a roll you cut to length.
- Width, total length or strip count, and the weight per inch or per strip, each exactly as the maker states it. A tape has no paddle capacity or compartments; these three figures are its dimensions.
- Whether the maker sells it for pickleball paddles or for racquets. Three picks (both GAMMA tapes and the Babolat tape) come from racquet makers; GAMMA’s pages say “racquet or paddle”, while Babolat describes its tungsten tape for a racquet.
- Where the listing sits on Amazon: new and in stock on 22 October 2026, at or below the maker’s own list price where the maker publishes one.
Sources, what players say on r/Pickleball and tapes we left out
Sources
Specifications come from CRBN’s lead tape page, Wilson’s pickleball lead tape page, Pickleball Effect’s tungsten tape page, Tourna’s pickleball lead tape page, GAMMA’s 0.25 in and 0.50 in lead tape pages, The Racket Pro’s tungsten tape page and Babolat’s balancer tape page. SummerHouse and Neobadge have no web store we could find or open, so their figures come from their own Amazon listings, labelled “listing”. The two published guides are Pickleheads’ weighted tape guide, whose page says it earns an affiliate commission on links, and Pickleball Studio’s lead tape guide by Chris Olson, whose page says it may contain affiliate links. Pickleball Central sells several of these tapes, so we label what it says as a retailer’s view.
What players say on r/Pickleball
In a February 2024 thread titled “Best Lead tape?”, the most upvoted reply says “Brand doesnt really matter.” Other commenters in the same thread like the simplicity of pre-cut strips, and one says they added 25 g to a paddle with 2 g per inch tape. In a July 2025 thread asking “What is the best Weighted tape for Pickleball.”, the most upvoted answer names Pickleball Effect’s tungsten tape, and another commenter replies that they wish it were half the price. These are single comments in small threads, not a survey.
Tapes we left out
Six Zero sells a Weighted Lead Tape on its own site (it lists 1 gram per inch, a 60 inch roll and ½ inch width), but we did not find it on Amazon, so it is not a pick. We did not find Selkirk’s tungsten tape on Amazon either. Pickleball Effect’s 1 g per inch roll and its pre-cut tungsten strips were listed on Amazon above the prices on Pickleball Effect’s own site when we checked, so neither is a pick. Wilson’s Tungsten Tuning Tape, a four-strip racquet pack, is not a pick: when we checked its Amazon listing on 22 October 2026 it was not sold by Amazon.com and showed only a future availability date. The PCKL and Tecnifibre strips were out of stock. Several generic strip packs on Amazon come from sellers with no maker page we could find, so they are not here.
Detailed Reviews
CRBN Lead Tape Strips, Coated 3 g lead strips
Players who want pre-cut lead strips of a known weight, with a named reviewer's recommendation behind them.
$14.99 from AmazonAs of Oct 24, 03:20 UTCVerdict
Twelve pre-cut lead strips of 3 g each, each coated with the CRBN logo (CRBN). Pickleheads names it as the lead tape to start with.
Evidence: Independently reviewed, exact model. Pickleheads: CRBN Lead Tape Strips, 12 x 3 g lead strips (the linked pack).
CRBN’s page lists “12 pre-cut adhesive weight strips, each 5 x 1 cm and 3 grams” with “extra-strength 3M adhesive”, and says each strip is coated with the CRBN logo. The same page calls the tape “USAP tournament approved”; that is CRBN’s wording. USA Pickleball’s 2026 rulebook lists the addition of weighted tape as an allowable alteration (see the FAQ below), and we found no list of approved tapes. Pickleheads writes: “If you’re just looking for a quick recommendation on pickleball lead tape, start with CRBN Lead Tape Strips if you want lead, or Pickleball Effect Paddle Tuning Tape if you’d rather skip lead.” Its own description of the pack matches CRBN’s: 12 strips, each 5 by 1 cm and 3 grams. CRBN’s Amazon listing says you can increase the size of the sweet spot by placing weights on the sides of the paddle; that is CRBN’s claim.
The linked listing is the Lead Tape (3g) pack on CRBN’s Amazon family page, which also carries a tungsten style; it is sold by CRBN Pickleball’s own storefront and shipped by Amazon.
Specs (CRBN Lead Tape Strips, Lead Tape 3 g, 12 strips, the linked listing)
- Material: lead, each strip coated with the CRBN logo (CRBN, read 22 Oct 2026)
- Dimensions: 12 pre-cut strips, each 5 x 1 cm (CRBN)
- Weight: 3 g per strip (CRBN); weight per inch not published
- Adhesive: 3M (CRBN)
Pros
- Twelve pre-cut 3 g strips, so each strip adds a known weight with no scale (CRBN)
- Pickleheads names it as the lead tape to start with
- 3M adhesive (CRBN)
Cons
- Each strip is a fixed 3 g, so finer steps mean cutting a strip
- Lead, which carries the handling notes covered in the FAQ
- “USAP tournament approved” is CRBN’s own wording

Wilson Pickleball Paddle Lead Tape, Eight 3 g lead strips
Players who want pre-cut 3 g lead strips from Wilson and do not need the strip size in advance.
$19.00 from AmazonAs of Oct 24, 03:20 UTCVerdict
Eight adhesive-backed lead strips of 3 g each, sold by Wilson for pickleball paddles. Wilson does not give the strips’ size, and we found no independent test.
Evidence: No independent test; maker specs. Source: Wilson’s product page.
Wilson’s page lists “8 Adhesive 3 Gram Strips” and says: “Each three-gram bar is backed by adhesive, making it easy to apply to the edge of your paddle.” On placement it says: “Apply anywhere from the paddle’s top edge to the handle edge, at the sides or on the corners depending on the alteration you’re after.” Wilson’s page gives no strip length or width, so neither do we.
The linked listing (model WR8911901001, black) is sold and shipped by Amazon.com, which showed limited stock when we checked.
Specs (Wilson Pickleball Paddle Lead Tape, Black, the linked listing)
- Material: lead (Wilson, read 22 Oct 2026)

- Weight: 3 g per strip (Wilson); weight per inch not published
Pros
- Eight 3 g strips sold by Wilson for pickleball paddles
- Wilson’s page names where the strips can go: top edge to handle edge, sides or corners
- Sold and shipped by Amazon.com
Cons
- Strip length and width are not published by Wilson
- No independent test found
- Amazon showed limited stock when we checked

Pickleball Effect Tungsten Weighted Tape, Tungsten roll, 0.5 g/in
Players who want a tungsten roll they can cut to any length, starting light at 0.5 g per inch.
$24.99 from AmazonAs of Oct 24, 03:20 UTCVerdict
A 60 inch tungsten roll at 0.5 g per inch that you cut or tear to length, from a maker that also sells 1 and 1.5 g per inch versions. Pickleball Studio names Pickleball Effect’s tungsten tape as its current favourite.
Evidence: Independently reviewed, same series. Pickleball Studio: Pickleball Effect tungsten tape, weight per inch not stated.
Pickleball Effect’s page sells the tape at “1/2 Gram per inch”, “1 Gram per inch” and “1.5 Grams per inch” (the last sold out when we checked), says each roll includes 60 inches of tape and says it “easily fits 13mm, 14mm, and 16mm paddles”. Its Amazon listing for the linked size says: “Each inch weighs 1/2 gram.” Pickleball Effect sells it as an alternative to lead tape; the material it names is tungsten. Its FAQ says you can tear the tape with your fingers, and that “repeated removal and reapplication may reduce adhesive strength”. One owner on r/Pickleball reports the opposite experience, writing in a July 2024 thread that “The PE tape stays sticky after removing it and replacing it many times.” Neither the page nor the listing gives the tape’s width.
Pickleball Studio writes: “My personal favorite right now is Pickleball Effect because you can get it in different weights. However, Selkirk is great if you have a very thin edgeless paddle.” It does not say which weight per inch it used, so this is praise for the tape line, not for the 0.5 g per inch roll we link. The same guide says that lately it prefers 0.5 g per inch because it can spread the weight further across the paddle.
The linked listing is the 0.5 g per inch, 60 inch roll, sold by Pickleball Effect LLC’s own storefront and shipped by Amazon. We link this size because the 1 g per inch roll was priced on Amazon above Pickleball Effect’s own price when we checked.
Specs (Pickleball Effect Tungsten Weighted Tape, 0.5 g per inch, 60 in roll, the linked listing)
- Material: tungsten (Pickleball Effect, read 22 Oct 2026)
- Dimensions: 60 in roll (Pickleball Effect); width not published
- Weight: 0.5 g per inch (Pickleball Effect: “1/2 Gram per inch”)
- Fit: “13mm, 14mm, and 16mm paddles” (Pickleball Effect)
Pros
- Tungsten tape at a stated 0.5 g per inch on a 60 inch roll, cut or torn to length
- Pickleball Studio names the brand’s tungsten tape as its current favourite
- The same tape comes in 1 g per inch from the same maker
Cons
- One owner on r/Pickleball writes that they wish it were half the price
- Width not published
- The maker says repeated reapplication may reduce adhesive strength; one owner reports it stays sticky
Who should buy it
Players who want a tungsten roll they can cut to any length, starting light at 0.5 g per inch.
Tourna Pickleball Lead Tape, Quarter-inch lead roll
Players with a thin or edgeless paddle who want a quarter-inch lead roll and do not need a published weight per inch.
$9.99 from AmazonAs of Oct 24, 03:20 UTCVerdict
A quarter-inch lead roll, 72 inches long, that Tourna sells for pickleball paddles. Tourna does not state a weight per inch for this roll.
Evidence: Retailer review (sells it), not independent. Pickleball Central: Tourna Pickleball Lead Tape, 1/4 in x 72 in.
Tourna’s page says the tape “Adds weight and stability to your paddle for more power”, is adhesive backed, is cut to the amount you want, and that a “1/4 inch wide cut is ideal for paddles”; it lists a “72” long roll”. Tourna does not give a weight per inch for this product. Its separate 36-yard racquet reels do state one, but those are a different product, so we do not carry the figure over. Pickleball Central’s tape guide, from a retailer that sells it, describes “Tourna Pickleball Lead Tape” as “a self-adhesive lead tape that comes in a 72” long x ¼” wide roll” and says lead tape is easy to remove, so you can experiment with placement.
Pickleball Studio writes that “Any 13mm or thinner edgeless paddles will not work with the wider option”, meaning half-inch tape, which is why a quarter-inch roll suits a thin edgeless paddle in its view.
The linked listing is the 1/4 inch style (model P-LD), sold by Tourna Sports’ own storefront and shipped by Amazon. Tourna’s Amazon family also has a half-inch style that we did not find on Tourna’s site.
Specs (Tourna Pickleball Lead Tape, 1/4 in x 72 in, model P-LD, the linked listing)
- Material: lead (Tourna, read 22 Oct 2026)
- Dimensions: 1/4 in wide, 72 in roll (Tourna)
- Weight: per inch not published by Tourna
Pros
- A quarter-inch lead roll that Tourna sells for pickleball paddles
- 72 inches to cut to length (Tourna)
- Pickleball Studio says quarter-inch tape suits 13 mm or thinner edgeless paddles
Cons
- No weight per inch published by Tourna
- No independent test found; the write-up we cite is a retailer’s
Who should buy it
Players with a thin or edgeless paddle who want a quarter-inch lead roll and do not need a published weight per inch.
GAMMA Lead Tape 0.25 in, Lead roll, 0.25 g/in
Players who want to add weight in small steps with a light quarter-inch lead roll.
$7.08 from AmazonAs of Oct 24, 03:20 UTCVerdict
A 72 inch quarter-inch lead roll that GAMMA lists at 0.25 grams per inch, for racquets or paddles. Pickleball Studio advises against the 0.25 g per inch weight; take that into account.
Evidence: Retailer review (sells it), not independent. Pickleball Central: GAMMA Lead Tape, 1/4 in x 72 in.
GAMMA’s page lists “0.25 GRAMS PER INCH FOR FINE-TUNED ADJUSTMENTS” and says each piece measures 72 inches and can be cut to length, for “your racquet or paddle”. It names three placements: “Top of frame (12 o’clock): Increases power and swing weight”, “Sides (3 & 9 o’clock): Improves stability and expands the sweet spot” and “Handle: Enhances control and shifts balance for better feel”; these are GAMMA’s claims. GAMMA’s page carries a California Proposition 65 lead warning (quoted in the FAQ). Pickleball Central’s product page, from a retailer that sells it, says the package has 72 inches of tape, 1/4 inch wide.
Sources disagree on this weight. GAMMA sells 0.25 g per inch for fine adjustments. Pickleball Studio says quarter-inch tape comes in 0.25 or 0.5 grams per inch and writes: “I highly recommend that you only consider the heavier option. Choosing the 0.25 g/in requires twice the layers to weigh your paddle up.”
The linked listing (model AQLTI10) is sold and shipped by Amazon.com.
Specs (GAMMA Lead Tape 0.25 in x 72 in, model AQLTI10, the linked listing)
- Material: lead (GAMMA, read 22 Oct 2026)
- Dimensions: 0.25 in wide, 72 in long (GAMMA)
- Weight: 0.25 g per inch (GAMMA)
Pros
- 0.25 g per inch, which GAMMA sells for fine adjustments
- A quarter-inch, 72 inch roll for racquets or paddles (GAMMA)
- Sold and shipped by Amazon.com
Cons
- Pickleball Studio advises against 0.25 g per inch, as it takes twice the layers
- No independent test found; the product page we cite is a retailer’s
- Carries a California Proposition 65 lead warning on GAMMA’s page
Who should buy it
Players who want to add weight in small steps with a light quarter-inch lead roll.
GAMMA Lead Tape 0.50 in, Half-inch lead, 0.5 g/in
Players with an edge-guarded paddle, which Pickleball Studio says suits half-inch tape, who want a half-inch lead roll at a moderate weight per inch.
$5.99 from AmazonAs of Oct 24, 03:20 UTCVerdict
The half-inch sibling of #5: a 36 inch roll that GAMMA lists at 0.5 grams per inch. Pickleball Studio gives a higher weight per inch for half-inch tape in general, so the figures disagree.
Evidence: No independent test; maker specs. Source: GAMMA’s product page.
GAMMA’s page lists “0.5 GRAMS PER INCH FOR PRECISE TUNING” and says each piece measures 36 inches and can be cut to length. It names the same three placements as the 0.25 inch tape and carries the same California Proposition 65 lead warning (quoted in the FAQ). Pickleball Studio writes that “½” tape comes in two weights: 1 g/in or 2g/in”; GAMMA’s half-inch tape is listed at 0.5 g per inch, so it is lighter per inch than those figures. Pickleball Studio also says half-inch tape suits a paddle with an edge guard better than a 13 mm or thinner edgeless one, where it “will bleed onto the face of your paddle”.
The linked listing is sold and shipped by Amazon.com.
Specs (GAMMA Lead Tape 0.50 in x 36 in, the linked listing)
- Material: lead (GAMMA, read 22 Oct 2026)
- Dimensions: 0.50 in wide, 36 in long (GAMMA)
- Weight: 0.5 g per inch (GAMMA)
Pros
- Half-inch lead at a stated 0.5 g per inch, for a paddle with an edge guard (Pickleball Studio)
- GAMMA names placements for the top, sides and handle
- Sold and shipped by Amazon.com
Cons
- 36 inches, half the length of the 0.25 inch roll
- Pickleball Studio gives 1 or 2 g per inch for half-inch tape; GAMMA’s figure is 0.5
- Carries a California Proposition 65 lead warning on GAMMA’s page
Who should buy it
Players with an edge-guarded paddle, which Pickleball Studio says suits half-inch tape, who want a half-inch lead roll at a moderate weight per inch.
SummerHouse Lead Tape 2 g/in, Lead roll, 2 g/in
Players who want a dense half-inch lead roll and will cut short strips.
$9.99 from AmazonAs of Oct 24, 03:20 UTCVerdict
A half-inch lead roll, 60 inches long, that SummerHouse’s listing gives at 2 grams per inch. It is sold mainly as golf tape and names pickleball paddles among its uses.
Evidence: No independent test; maker specs. Source: SummerHouse’s Amazon listing.
SummerHouse’s Amazon listing says “2g/inch high density lead tape, 60” length, 1/2” width”, uses “3M Double Coated Tissue Tape”, and says the tape fits the edge of a pickleball paddle, a golf club head and a tennis racket. The listing gives the thickness two ways: “20mil” in one bullet and “0.025 Inch Thickness” in the title. The listing carries a lead handling warning (quoted in the FAQ). We found no SummerHouse web store, so every figure is the listing’s.
On r/Pickleball, one owner writes that they would buy the Summerhouse brand at 1 g per inch and cut it into 3-inch strips; that is a different weight from the 2 g per inch roll we link. Pickleball Studio says denser tape such as 2 g per inch “concentrates the weight in a very small area”.
The linked listing (1/2 in x 60 in) is sold by SummerHouse’s own storefront and shipped by Amazon; it showed limited stock when we checked.
Specs (SummerHouse 2 g per inch Lead Tape, 1/2 in x 60 in, the linked listing)
- Material: lead (listing, read 22 Oct 2026)
- Dimensions: 1/2 in wide, 60 in long (listing); thickness “20mil” or “0.025 Inch” (listing gives both)
- Weight: 2 g per inch (listing)
Pros
- 2 g per inch by the listing, so a short strip adds more weight than the lighter rolls here
- 60 inches of half-inch tape (listing)
- Sold by SummerHouse’s own storefront
Cons
- Every figure is the listing’s; we found no maker web store
- Sold mainly as golf tape
- The listing carries a lead handling warning
Who should buy it
Players who want a dense half-inch lead roll and will cut short strips.
The Racket Pro Weighted Tungsten Tape, Tungsten roll, 1 g/in
Players who want a tungsten roll sold for pickleball paddles at 1 g per inch and do not need the width in advance.
$24.99 from AmazonAs of Oct 24, 03:20 UTCVerdict
A 60 inch tungsten roll that The Racket Pro states at 1 gram per inch and sells for pickleball paddles. The Racket Pro does not give the tape’s width, and we found no independent test.
Evidence: No independent test; maker specs. Source: The Racket Pro’s product page.
The Racket Pro’s product page says: “Customize your paddle with our 60 inch roll of tungsten tape. Allows precise weight customization, with each 1 inch adding 1 gram to your pickleball paddle”. It says the tape is “Designed to fit 13mm, 14mm, and 16mm edge guards” and has a “Premium 3M adhesive backing”. The page calls the tape “Ultra Thin” in its title but gives no thickness or width, so neither do we. The Racket Pro’s US store lists it at a regular price in US dollars, and the linked Amazon listing was at that price when we checked.
The linked listing is the 1 g per inch, 60 inch roll, sold by The Racket Pro’s own storefront and shipped by Amazon.
Specs (The Racket Pro Weighted Tungsten Tape, 1 g per inch, 60 in roll, the linked listing)
- Material: tungsten (The Racket Pro, read 22 Oct 2026)
- Dimensions: 60 in roll (The Racket Pro); width not published
- Weight: 1 g per inch (The Racket Pro: “each 1 inch adding 1 gram”)
- Fit: “13mm, 14mm, and 16mm edge guards” (The Racket Pro)
- Adhesive: 3M (The Racket Pro)
Pros
- Tungsten at a stated 1 g per inch on a 60 inch roll (The Racket Pro)
- Sold by its maker for pickleball paddles with 13, 14 or 16 mm edge guards
- Sold by The Racket Pro’s own storefront
Cons
- Width not published
- No independent test found
- Called “Ultra Thin” by its maker, with no thickness figure
Who should buy it
Players who want a tungsten roll sold for pickleball paddles at 1 g per inch and do not need the width in advance.
Babolat Balancer Tape, Three tungsten strips
Players who want a small pack of tungsten strips and do not need a published strip weight.
$15.00 from AmazonAs of Oct 24, 03:20 UTCVerdict
A pack of three pre-cut tungsten strips that Babolat sells for racquets. Babolat states no weight or size for the strips.
Evidence: No independent test; maker specs. Source: Babolat’s product page.
Babolat’s page says: “The Babolat tape allows you to customize the frame’s weight and balance. The ideal solution to further boost the power of your racquet. Pack of three pre-cut tungsten strips”. It lists the composition as tungsten and the origin as Taiwan, and gives no strip weight, length or width. We found no independent test or owner report for it on a pickleball paddle.
The linked listing is sold and shipped by racquetstorecom, a third-party Amazon seller, not by Babolat or Amazon, at no more than Babolat’s own price when we checked.
Specs (Babolat Balancer Tape, 3 strips, the linked listing)
- Material: tungsten (Babolat, read 22 Oct 2026)
- Dimensions: 3 pre-cut strips (Babolat); length and width not published
- Weight: not published by Babolat
Pros
- Three pre-cut tungsten strips from Babolat
- Tungsten, by Babolat’s page
Cons
- No strip weight or size published by Babolat
- Sold by a third-party seller, racquetstorecom
- Babolat sells it for racquets; no paddle-use report found
Who should buy it
Players who want a small pack of tungsten strips and do not need a published strip weight.
Neobadge Lead Tape, Ten 3 g lead strips
Players who want coated 3 g lead strips at an entry-level price and are fine with listing-only figures.
$7.21 from AmazonAs of Oct 24, 03:20 UTCVerdict
Ten pre-cut, coated lead strips of 3 g each (listing). Every figure is the listing’s, as we found no Neobadge web store.
Evidence: No independent test; maker specs. Source: Neobadge’s Amazon listing.
Neobadge’s Amazon listing describes pre-cut, coated 3 g strips, a bullet says “Our pre-weighted strips (3 grams per piece)”, and its details list ten lead strips of “High density lead”, each 1.97 x 0.39 inches. The listing says its adhesive stays on in competition and can be applied to a curved paddle edge; those are Neobadge’s claims, and we found no independent test. It differs from the CRBN strips (#1) in pack size (ten strips against twelve), in having no named reviewer behind it and in coming in black, silver or white.
The linked listing is the black colour, sold by Neobadge’s own storefront and shipped by Amazon.
Specs (Neobadge Lead Tape, black, 3 g strips, the linked listing)
- Material: high density lead, coated (listing, read 22 Oct 2026)
- Dimensions: 10 strips, each 1.97 x 0.39 in (listing)
- Weight: 3 g per strip (listing); weight per inch not published
Pros
- Ten pre-cut 3 g lead strips, coated, by the listing
- Sold by Neobadge’s own storefront
- Black, silver or white on the same listing family
Cons
- Every figure is the listing’s; no maker web store found
- No independent test found
- Two fewer strips than the CRBN pack
Who should buy it
Players who want coated 3 g lead strips at an entry-level price and are fine with listing-only figures.
Choosing Lead Tape for a Pickleball Paddle
- Width and your paddle. Pickleball Studio says the two main widths are ¼ inch and ½ inch, and that “Any 13mm or thinner edgeless paddles will not work with the wider option.” For a paddle with an edge guard it calls this less of a concern. Tourna and GAMMA (0.25 in) sell quarter-inch rolls; GAMMA (0.50 in) and SummerHouse sell half-inch rolls. Pickleball Effect says its tungsten tape fits 13, 14 and 16 mm paddles, and The Racket Pro says its tape fits 13, 14 and 16 mm edge guards; neither gives a width.
- Weight per inch or per strip. The makers here state 0.25, 0.5, 1 and 2 g per inch for the rolls that give a figure (SummerHouse’s 2 g by its listing), and 3 g per strip for the strip packs that give one (Neobadge’s by its listing). Pickleball Studio says it lately prefers 0.5 g per inch to spread weight over more of the paddle. Tourna and Babolat publish no weight.
- Strips or roll. Pre-cut strips (CRBN, Wilson, Neobadge and Babolat’s tungsten pack) come as fixed pieces; CRBN, Wilson and Neobadge give 3 g per strip. A roll (Tourna, both GAMMA tapes, SummerHouse, and the Pickleball Effect and The Racket Pro tungsten rolls) is cut to length.
- Lead or tungsten. Seven picks are lead and three are tungsten. Pickleheads says both “add weight exactly where you stick them” and that the difference is the metal. The makers’ own handling notes on lead are in the FAQ below; we add none of our own.
- Where it goes. Makers and testers describe placement in their own words: GAMMA names the top of the frame, the sides and the handle; Wilson says anywhere from the top edge to the handle edge, the sides or the corners; Six Zero’s lead tape page names the throat, bottom corners, top corners and crown; Pickleball Studio says “It’s best to start at the bottom corners or up the sides.” For how weight changes the way a paddle swings, see our explainer on swing weight and our guide to pickleball paddle weight.
- Your paddle’s warranty. Read your paddle maker’s warranty first. Six Zero’s warranty page lists, under what is not covered: “Any damage to the edge guard or paddle structure resulting from the use of clamp-on weight accessories or third-party weighting systems. This includes, but is not limited to, edge guard separation, loosening, cracking, or structural compromise related to added weight or pressure at the paddle edge.” The same list includes “Any modifications made to the paddle after purchasing.”
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is the best lead tape for a pickleball paddle?
It depends on the format you want. For pre-cut lead strips, Pickleheads names CRBN Lead Tape Strips (review 1) as the lead tape to start with; Wilson (review 2) and Neobadge (review 10) sell 3 g strips too. For a roll, Tourna (review 4) and GAMMA (reviews 5 and 6) sell lead, and Pickleball Effect (review 3) and The Racket Pro (review 8) sell tungsten rolls; Pickleball Effect’s is the tape line Pickleball Studio names as its current favourite. The most upvoted reply in one r/Pickleball thread says brand does not really matter.
Q. Is lead tape allowed in USA Pickleball play?
The 2026 USA Pickleball Official Rulebook lists, under rule 3.D.6 Allowable Alterations, “Addition of weighted tape (see Rule 3.D.7).” (3.D.6.b), next to “Addition or replacement of edge guard tape (see Rule 3.D.7).” (3.D.6.a). Rule 3.D.7 reads: “Decals and Tape. Decals and tape on the paddle face must not extend more than 1.0 inch (2.54 cm) above the top of the grip nor more than 0.5 inch (1.27 cm) inside the outer edge of the paddle or, if an edge guard is in place, 0.5 inch (1.27 cm) inside the edge guard.” Rule 3.D.3 reads: “Weight. There is no restriction on paddle weight.” 3.D.6 also says: “Altered paddles must meet all specifications.”
Q. Lead tape or tungsten tape: which should I buy?
Pickleheads says both do the same job and the difference is the metal. The tungsten tapes here are the Pickleball Effect and The Racket Pro rolls and the Babolat strip pack. Pickleball Studio says tungsten is more expensive than lead in general. Pickleball Effect sells its tape as an alternative to lead tape.
Q. What do the makers say about handling lead tape?
We quote the makers and add nothing of our own. GAMMA’s pages for both of its lead tapes carry this California Proposition 65 notice: “⚠️ WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including lead, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information, go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov”. SummerHouse’s listing says: “WARNING: WARNING: THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS CHEMICALS, INCLUDING LEAD. PLEASE WASH YOUR HANDS AFTER HANDLING! PLEASE KEEP CHILDREN OUT OF TOUCH!!” Wilson’s and Tourna’s pages for the lead tapes here carry no warning text that we found.
Q. Can adding weight affect my paddle’s warranty?
It can: Six Zero’s warranty excludes weighting-related edge damage (quoted in full in the buying guide above) and “Any modifications made to the paddle after purchasing.” Check your own paddle maker’s warranty before you add tape.
Q. Quarter-inch or half-inch tape?
Pickleball Studio says quarter-inch tape suits 13 mm or thinner edgeless paddles, because half-inch tape “will bleed onto the face of your paddle and won’t look as clean”; with an edge guard, it says, that is less of a concern. Tourna and GAMMA’s 0.25 inch roll are quarter-inch; GAMMA’s 0.50 inch roll and SummerHouse are half-inch.
Q. How much weight does one strip add?
By the makers’ figures: 3 g per CRBN, Wilson or Neobadge strip (Neobadge’s figure is its listing’s). A roll adds its stated weight per inch for each inch you cut: 0.25 g (GAMMA 0.25 in), 0.5 g (GAMMA 0.50 in and Pickleball Effect), 1 g (The Racket Pro) or 2 g (SummerHouse, by its listing). Tourna and Babolat publish no figure.
Q. Should I add tape or buy a heavier paddle?
That is a choice about how your paddle swings. Our swing weight explainer and paddle weight guide cover the figures makers publish, and our guides to the best pickleball paddles, power paddles and control paddles compare paddles as they come from the maker.
