The short answer

The CRBN 3X 16mm is the elongated paddle with CRBN’s T700 Toray carbon face and a Pickleball Effect review that lists big spin among its pros, the Paddletek Bantam TKO-C 14.3mm is the polymer-core paddle with a PT-700 unidirectional raw carbon face that Pickleball Effect and Pickleheads both reviewed, and the Selkirk LUXX Control Air Invikta is the 19 mm honeycomb control paddle with Selkirk’s Florek carbon fiber face and InfiniGrit texture.

Our verdict

Our Top Picks

“Carbon” is on almost every performance paddle page, but makers use different words for it: T700 or Toray raw carbon, PT-700 unidirectional carbon, Florek carbon fiber, Diamond Tough raw carbon fiber, a carbon friction surface. This guide gathers nine paddles stocked on Amazon whose makers’ own pages name the face as carbon fiber, quotes each maker’s wording, and keeps each claim about spin, feel or wear with the tester who made it, the date and the exact paddle shape that tester played.

The face is one part of a paddle. The nine also differ in core material, thickness and shape, and the testers’ remarks below follow those differences. For the overall list across every style, see our guide to the best pickleball paddles; for paddles chosen for price, see the best budget pickleball paddles; for the paddles pros play, see the pro paddle guide. This guide is about carbon-faced paddles only.

Every row is the exact variant we link. Core and weight lead the table; the figures are the makers’ own unless a source is named, and the Face column quotes the maker’s own words. “USA Pickleball” is what the approved-paddle list showed for that model on 2026-10-22, with the date the list gives for the entry. The list does not name every build: the Selkirk entry, the Six Zero entry and the JOOLA entry are explained in their reviews, so check your exact model before a sanctioned event.

What makers and testers say about carbon faces

Four things stand out when the makers’ pages and the testers’ reviews are read side by side. Each is described where the paddle is reviewed; here they are in one place.

  • The makers’ words differ, and we do not rank them. CRBN, Vatic Pro and Bread & Butter name T700 or Toray carbon; Six Zero names “Diamond Tough Raw Carbon Fiber”; Paddletek names “PT-700 unidirectional raw carbon fiber”; Selkirk names “Florek Carbon Fiber” with an InfiniGrit texture; JOOLA names a “carbon friction surface”. No tester we cite compares these carbon types with each other.
  • Makers claim longer-lasting texture; testers qualify it. CRBN says its T700 Toray surface has “Unmatched durability and industry leading spin and dwell time”; Selkirk says InfiniGrit gives “3x longer-lasting spin than raw carbon paddles”; Six Zero says Diamond Tough “outperforms traditional raw carbon by more than four times”. Pickleball Effect says of the Barrage 4 that “the raw carbon grit will wear down over time”; Pickleheads says on its TKO-C review that “Raw carbon always boosts durability as it’s a long-lasting material” and also lists “Textured grit on paddle face may erode over time” as a con; FORWRD, writing about the Coral, says the texture “does show some wear after heavy outdoor use (all carbon surfaces do)”. These are statements about one model each, not a rule.
  • Testers disagree about the JOOLA Hyperion CFS face. Pickleball Effect (2022) says the CFS facing’s texture “is built into the facing material which means it will last longer” and that the surface had not worn down; Dash Pickleball (2023) says Hyperion paddle faces “wear out quickly”. See review 8.
  • The face is not the whole paddle. The nine picks span 14 mm to 19 mm cores in foam, polymer and honeycomb, and testers name the core and thickness when they describe feel: Pickleball Effect lists the foam Loco’s feel as stiff and hollow, Pickleball Effect describes the 19 mm LUXX as plush and dense, and Pickleheads says the TKO-C’s 14.3 mm is “more plush than I expected because it’s not thermoformed”.

How we picked these carbon paddles

How this guide was built

built from manufacturer spec pages, the USA Pickleball approved-paddle list, and published reviews by Pickleball Effect, Pickleheads, Dash Pickleball, John Kew Pickleball and FORWRD; we have not tested these paddles ourselves.

What a paddle had to show

  • The maker’s own page names a carbon fiber face. Each pick’s Face cell quotes the maker’s words. We did not count a paddle whose maker page was unreadable to us or abbreviated the face without naming carbon: Franklin’s C45 Dynasty page refused our reader, and JOOLA’s Perseus Pro IV page reads only “Textured CF”.
  • A named tester’s review of this paddle. Where a tester played a different shape, thickness or earlier colour from the one we link, the review says so.
  • Stocked on Amazon. Each pick is a New offer in stock on Amazon on 2026-10-22, at or below the maker’s regular price. Several carbon paddles that came up in our search were not usable: the Gearbox GX2’s Amazon listings were not accessible to our price check, and the Six Zero Double Black Diamond Control and the Selkirk Boomstik showed a future availability date.
  • The exact variant. Two Paddletek TKO-C listings titled 14.3mm carry the barcodes of Paddletek’s 12.7 mm variants, so we linked the Titanium White listing, whose barcode matches the 14.3 mm.
  • A checkable approval status. We searched the USA Pickleball list by brand and model on 2026-10-22 and quote what it showed.
  • Distinct roles. The nine picks are seven brands: CRBN twice (the X Series 3X and the TruFoam Barrage 4, two different lines) and Vatic Pro twice (the full-foam V-Sol Pro and the honeycomb Prism, two different lines), and Bread & Butter, Paddletek, Selkirk, JOOLA and Six Zero once each. Selkirk Sport announced its acquisition of Bread & Butter on 2026-05-12, which is why the Loco’s Amazon seller is Selkirk’s storefront.
Where the figures come from

Where the figures come from

Weights, dimensions and core thickness are the makers’ own figures; where a maker’s page leaves a figure out, we say so and name the Amazon listing or the tester whose figure we show. Where sources disagree we show both. Pickleball Effect measures power and pop with a speed gun and spin with its own rig, and reports percentiles against its own database; its numbers do not transfer to other testers. Pickleheads rates paddles out of 10 after on-court play, and John Kew adds radar and ball-cannon readings. Several of these outlets earn affiliate commissions or discount-code revenue, or were sent paddles by makers, and the reviews say so where the page does. Pickleball Effect’s pages say “This page contains affiliate links. We may earn a commission, but our testing and opinions remain neutral.” and, in its reviewer note, “Reviews are independent: no brand pays for coverage or approves a review before it goes up.”

CRBN 3X 16mm

Players who want an elongated paddle with a carbon face the maker calls T700 Toray and are willing to adjust to a stiffer feel.

$149.99 from AmazonAs of Oct 23, 18:42 UTC

Verdict

CRBN’s elongated X Series paddle with the face CRBN calls a T700 Toray carbon fiber surface, reviewed in the 16mm by Pickleball Effect, which lists big spin among its pros and a longer adjustment period among its cons.

Evidence: Independently reviewed, exact model. Pickleball Effect: CRBN 3X 16mm (and later the 14mm).

CRBN’s own page for the 3X (titled “CRBN³ X Series”, and noting the X Series was formerly known as the Power Series) says the face is a “T700 Toray Carbon Fiber Surface” and claims “Unmatched durability and industry leading spin and dwell time”. That is the maker’s claim. Pickleball Effect (May 29, 2023) played the 3X 16mm “for the last few weeks”, lists its face as “T700 Raw Carbon Fiber” and a polymer core, and measured a 119 swingweight and a 6.79 twistweight. It says the 3X “falls into the same all-court category like the other shapes in the Power series with its blend of power and control”, lists “Big spin” among the pros and “Longer adjustment period due to stiff feel” among the cons, and writes: “I would not recommend the CRBN Power series to anyone looking to improve their soft game.” Pickleball Effect’s page offers readers a discount code for CRBN.

The same CRBN chart lists the 1X (elongated, long handle) and 2X (square) shapes of the X Series; we link the 3X because it is the shape Pickleball Effect reviewed in the 16mm. It is a different CRBN line from the TruFoam Barrage 4 in review 2.

Specs (CRBN 3X, 16mm)

  • Core: 16 mm; CRBN’s page names an “Upgraded Durable Core” without a material, and Pickleball Effect lists a polymer core
  • Weight: 7.8–8.1 oz (CRBN); Pickleball Effect lists 7.8–8.2 oz
  • Face: “T700 Toray Carbon Fiber Surface” (CRBN)
  • Size: 16.5 x 7.5 in; handle 5.25 in; grip circumference 4.125 in (CRBN’s chart, “averages and approximations”); Amazon’s listing and Pickleball Effect give 4.25 in
  • Approval: USA Pickleball list, “3X 16MM”, added 2023-02-08 (read 2026-10-22)

Pros

  • T700 Toray carbon face named on CRBN’s page, with big spin among the pros Pickleball Effect lists
  • Lighter swingweight than the 1X in Pickleball Effect’s comparison (119 against 123)
  • Listed by USA Pickleball

Cons

  • A stiff feel and a longer adjustment period, per Pickleball Effect
  • Pickleball Effect would not recommend the series to players working on their soft game
  • The review is from 2023

CRBN TruFoam Barrage 4

14 mm 100% TruFoam floating core

Players who want a foam-core hybrid with a raw carbon face and a pop-first profile, and who will weigh the grit-wear remark.

$229.99 from AmazonAs of Oct 23, 16:56 UTC

Verdict

CRBN’s foam-core hybrid with a T700 raw carbon face; Pickleball Effect measures its pop and spin high and says the raw carbon grit will wear down over time.

Evidence: Independently reviewed, exact model. Pickleball Effect: Barrage 4 (hybrid).

CRBN’s page lists “Officially Licensed Toray T700 Carbon Fiber”, says the Barrage “features CRBN’s signature T700 raw carbon fiber face”, and describes a 100% TruFoam floating core at 14 mm with a carbon fiber reinforced frame. Pickleball Effect (page published July 2026 per its metadata; read 2026-10-22) measured 56.3 MPH power (53rd percentile, “10 max serves, speed gun”), 37 MPH pop (88th percentile) and 2,091 RPM spin. It calls this “The highest spin I have measured on a CRBN, though the raw carbon grit will wear down over time”, and its summary says the raw carbon face lacks a durable grit texture. It calls the Barrage 4 “The biggest pop in the TruFoam family”.

Pickleheads (March 20, 2026; the reviewer played the square and hybrid shapes) lists “T700 raw carbon fiber” in its spec table, rates spin 9.5/10 (“Every CRBN paddle I’ve played with gets wicked spin, and the Barrage is no different”) and durability 9.5/10, crediting a “denser, more durable foam” core; it says it “had to add weight first” to get control. The grit-wear remark from Pickleball Effect and the durability score from Pickleheads are about different things, the face texture and the paddle as a whole. Pickleheads’ page offers a discount code and states it earns affiliate commissions.

Specs (CRBN TruFoam Barrage 4, hybrid AeroCurve)

  • Core: 14 mm; 100% TruFoam floating core (CRBN)
  • Weight: 8.0 oz ± 0.2 average (CRBN); Pickleball Effect’s unit was 8 oz static
  • Face: “Officially Licensed Toray T700 Carbon Fiber” (CRBN)
  • Size: 16.2 x 7.8 in; handle 5.5 in (CRBN measures to the top of the rubber band); grip circumference 4.125 in (CRBN); Amazon’s dimensions field reads 16.5 x 7.5 in
  • Swing weight 108–110 and twist weight 6.50 (CRBN); 112 and 6.66 on Pickleball Effect’s test unit
  • Approval: USA Pickleball list, “Trufoam Barrage 4”, added 2026-02-10 (read 2026-10-22)

Pros

  • Raw carbon face with the highest spin Pickleball Effect says it has measured on a CRBN
  • Pop at the 88th percentile of Pickleball Effect’s database
  • Listed by USA Pickleball

Cons

  • Pickleball Effect says the raw carbon grit will wear down over time
  • Pickleball Effect says sweet spot drop-off toward the edges remains
  • Pickleheads added weight before control felt right

Vatic Pro V-Sol Pro Flash 16mm

Players who want a foam-core hybrid with a raw T700 carbon surface and who are comfortable with a light paddle and a tighter sweet spot.

$109.99 from AmazonAs of Oct 23, 18:52 UTC

Verdict

Vatic Pro’s full-foam hybrid Flash with a raw Toray T700 carbon surface; Pickleheads rates its spin 9.5/10 and its forgiveness 8/10.

Evidence: Independently reviewed, exact model. Pickleheads: V-Sol Pro Flash (hybrid).

Vatic Pro’s page lists the surface as “Raw TORAY T700 Carbon Fiber with heat-compressed texturing” over a “Floating EPP Core with an EVA Perimeter foam ring”, and says the paddle is “Paired with a Toray T700 carbon fiber surface”. Pickleheads (October 27, 2025) played the V-Sol Pro for 12+ hours “using the hybrid-shaped Flash model”, which is the shape we link. It rates spin 9.5/10 (“Simply phenomenal spin generation”), forgiveness 8/10 (“This paddle wasn’t very forgiving when I mishit. You have to try to hit the center of the paddle face.”), and calls it “The lightest 16 mm paddle I’ve tested”, adding that weight can be added. Durability is 8.5/10: “a few scratches. For the most part, it held up very well, and the foam core should be durable.” Pickleheads recommends it for “anybody in the 3.0 to 4.5 skill level range” (more paddles for that range are in our best intermediate pickleball paddles guide). Its page states it earns affiliate commissions and offers a discount code.

Vatic Pro’s page for this paddle gives no length or width; the 16.2 x 7.7 in figure for the Flash is from Vatic Pro’s Amazon listing. The Prism Flash in review 4 is a different Vatic Pro line, not a sibling shape of this one.

Specs (Vatic Pro V-Sol Pro Flash, 16mm, standard handle)

  • Core: 16 mm floating EPP foam core with an EVA perimeter foam ring (Vatic Pro)
  • Weight: 8.0 oz average (Vatic Pro notes “exact weights are not guaranteed”)
  • Face: “Raw TORAY T700 Carbon Fiber with heat-compressed texturing” (Vatic Pro)
  • Size: 16.2 x 7.7 in (Vatic Pro’s Amazon listing); standard handle 5.3 in; grip circumference 4.125 in (Vatic Pro)
  • Approval: USA Pickleball list, “V-Sol Pro Flash 16mm SH”, added 2025-08-14 (read 2026-10-22)

Pros

  • Raw Toray T700 carbon surface that Pickleheads pairs with a 9.5/10 spin rating
  • The lightest 16 mm paddle Pickleheads has tested, a trait it says can be adjusted with added weight
  • Listed by USA Pickleball

Cons

  • A tight sweet spot: Pickleheads rates forgiveness 8/10 and says mishits are not forgiven much
  • Pickleheads reports some issues around lightness and feedback
  • Pickleheads’ review covers the Flash shape only

Vatic Pro Prism Flash 16mm

16mm · 16 mm polymer honeycomb

Players who want a raw T700 carbon surface on a softer, control-oriented paddle and who accept less power than a thermoformed paddle.

$99.99 from AmazonAs of Oct 23, 18:42 UTC

Verdict

Vatic Pro’s older honeycomb-core Flash with foam-injected walls and a raw Toray T700 carbon surface; Dash Pickleball (2023) calls its spin top-tier and the Prisms Vatic’s most control-oriented paddles.

Evidence: Independently reviewed, exact model. Dash Pickleball: Prism Flash 16mm.

Vatic Pro’s Prism page says it uses “the highest quality TORAY T700 raw Carbon Fiber” and lists the surface as “Raw TORAY T700 Carbon Fiber with heat compressed texturing” over “Optimized C7 Polymers and high-grade performance honeycomb” with unibody foam-injected walls. Dash Pickleball (August 4, 2023) reviewed this exact model and lists its face as “T700 Raw Carbon Fiber”. It says “The Prism Flash is a top-tier paddle in the spin department”, reports RPMs “close to 2,000”, and writes that “The Prisms are Vatic’s most control-oriented paddles.” On power it says the paddle gives “slightly more power than a Gen. 1 raw carbon fiber paddle and notably less than a thermoformed paddle”. On wear it says “my Vatic Pros have held up very well grit-wise, and I expect the same with the Prism”, an expectation from the reviewer’s other Vatic paddles rather than a long-term report on this one. Dash Pickleball’s page lists a discount code (DASHPB); it does not say more about the relationship.

This is a 2023 review of a model Vatic Pro still sells and the list still carries. It is a different Vatic Pro line from the V-Sol Pro Flash in review 3.

Specs (Vatic Pro Prism Flash, 16mm, standard handle)

  • Core: 16 mm; “Optimized C7 Polymers and high-grade performance honeycomb”, foam-injected walls (Vatic Pro)

Pros

  • Raw Toray T700 carbon surface with spin Dash Pickleball calls top-tier
  • Soft, forgiving feel that Dash Pickleball calls excellent for drops, dinks and resets
  • Listed by USA Pickleball

Cons

  • Less power than thermoformed paddles, per Dash Pickleball

Bread & Butter Loco Elongated 16mm

16mm · 16 mm dual-density foam

Players who want a foam-core elongated paddle with a carbon-and-fiberglass face and who are comfortable with a stiff, lively feel.

$149.25 from AmazonAs of Oct 23, 16:57 UTC

Verdict

Bread & Butter’s full-foam elongated paddle with a T700 raw carbon face over a fiberglass layer; Pickleball Effect and John Kew class it as a power paddle with a stiff, lively feel.

Evidence: Independently reviewed, exact model. Pickleball Effect: Loco Standard, Hybrid and Elongated.

Bread & Butter’s page lists “Face Material: T700 Raw Carbon Fiber” and a “Layer of Fiberglass for increased pop” on a 16 mm dual-density foam core (EPP and EVA). John Kew Pickleball (page published December 2025 per its metadata) describes the face differently: “The paddle face uses a CFC layup: carbon fiber, fiberglass, carbon fiber.” Bread & Butter sent Kew the paddles “with zero strings attached”, and his page offers an affiliate code. He ran all three Loco shapes: spin “landed between 2050 and 2150 RPM across all shapes”, “The elongated had the highest overall power score, with the hybrid close behind”, and the elongated swing weight is the heaviest at 121.4. He calls the feel crisp and lively, stiffer and a bit hollow, with fiberglass “snap” from the CFC layup.

Pickleball Effect (September 5, 2025; it says its article “is not sponsored” by the brands that sent paddles) tested the Standard, Hybrid and Elongated Loco, labels it a “Full-foam power paddle” with “High (low 90s percentile)” power, “Fair or modest” control and a stiff, hollow feel, and lists as a con that the “Elongated version feels heavy without extra forgiveness”. Selkirk’s storefront sells this paddle on Amazon because Selkirk acquired Bread & Butter. The USA Pickleball list also carries Loco 2 entries, which are a newer, different paddle from the Loco we link.

Specs (Bread & Butter Loco Elongated, 16mm, Azul)

  • Core: 16 mm dual-density foam, EPP and EVA (Bread & Butter)
  • Weight: 8.0–8.2 oz (Bread & Butter)
  • Face: “T700 Raw Carbon Fiber” with a “Layer of Fiberglass for increased pop” (Bread & Butter)
  • Size: 16.5 x 7.375 in; handle 5.5 in; grip circumference 4.25 in (Bread & Butter)
  • Swing weight 118–120 and twist weight 6.28 (Bread & Butter); John Kew measured the elongated at 121.4 swing weight
  • Approval: USA Pickleball list, “Loco Elongated 16mm”, added 2025-08-05 (read 2026-10-22)

Pros

  • T700 raw carbon face with a fiberglass layer for pop, per Bread & Butter
  • The elongated had John Kew’s highest overall Loco power score
  • Listed by USA Pickleball

Cons

  • A stiff, hollow feel and modest control, per Pickleball Effect
  • Pickleball Effect says the elongated feels heavy without extra forgiveness
  • Bread & Butter and John Kew describe the face layup differently

Paddletek’s page says “PT-700 unidirectional raw carbon fiber is combined with our legendary Bantam core”, and lists “Toray 700 carbon fiber face for maximum spin” over a “Bantam Quick Response Technology (QRT) Polymer Core”. Pickleball Effect (May 8, 2024) lists the 14.3mm’s face as “Raw carbon fiber”, labels it “Paddle Type: Power” and says “both of these paddles fall under the category of high-power paddles, requiring more skill and effort to control effectively”. On the 14.3mm it writes: “The 14.3 paddle proved to be easier to control and resulted in fewer errors overall due to its increased forgiveness compared to the 12.7 paddle.” On spin it says Paddletek “finally gave in and rolled out raw carbon fiber surfaces”, so the paddles “produce much more spin as a result”, with spin tests averaging “in the lower 1900s for RPMs”, “a good result” though “they don’t top the charts for spin”.

Pickleheads (July 26, 2024) rates the spin 9.5/10: “We’re finally getting a Paddletek paddle with enough spin to play competitively.” It calls the 14.3 mm “more plush than I expected because it’s not thermoformed”, says “Raw carbon always boosts durability as it’s a long-lasting material”, and lists “Textured grit on paddle face may erode over time” as a con. So the two testers differ on how far the spin goes (Pickleball Effect: not top of the charts; Pickleheads: 9.5/10), and Pickleheads gives both a durability point and a grit-wear caveat. Pickleball Effect’s page links to Pickleball Central with its discounts applied; Pickleheads’ page states it earns affiliate commissions. Both reviews are from 2024 and Paddletek still sells the paddle.

The handle length differs by source: Paddletek lists 5.25 in, Pickleball Effect’s table 5.3 in (its text says 5.5 in measured), and Amazon’s bullet 5.75 in.

Pros

  • PT-700 unidirectional raw carbon face that both testers credit with a spin gain for Paddletek
  • The 14.3 mm is the more forgiving and easier-to-control of the two thicknesses, per Pickleball Effect
  • Listed by USA Pickleball

Cons

  • Pickleball Effect calls both thicknesses high-power paddles that need more skill and effort to control
  • Pickleheads lists textured grit that may erode over time
  • Both reviews are from 2024

Players who want a carbon-faced control paddle with a thick core and a textured surface and who value touch over pop.

$199.99 from AmazonAs of Oct 23, 19:28 UTC

Verdict

Selkirk’s 19 mm honeycomb control paddle in the elongated Invikta shape, with a Florek carbon fiber face and InfiniGrit texture; Pickleball Effect classes it as a control paddle with medium spin.

Evidence: Independently reviewed, exact model. Pickleball Effect: LUXX Control Air Invikta InfiniGrit.

Selkirk’s page lists “Face Material: Florek Carbon Fiber” and “Spin Texture: InfiniGrit”, and claims InfiniGrit gives “3x longer-lasting spin than raw carbon paddles”. Those are the maker’s claims. Pickleball Effect (page published July 2026 per its metadata; read 2026-10-22) tested the Invikta InfiniGrit: it types it “Control”, lists its grit as “Paint Grit” with “Tier 3” durability, and measured 1,993 RPM spin, which it calls “right around average. Enough to shape a ball but not a spin-first paddle.” Its summary still lists “InfiniGrit surface delivers spin & durability that beats raw carbon fiber”. It describes a “Plush, dense feel through the center of the face”, “Very little jump off the face”, a 117 swing weight and a 5.83 twist weight on the low side that “asks for cleaner contact than a higher twist weight paddle would”, and says “The average sweet spot and premium price, however, make it difficult to recommend over many of today’s competing control paddles.”

Pickleheads’ earlier review (its page shows “Published on: Jan 1, 2024”) covered the original LUXX Control Air with a 20 mm core, not this paddle; it called that paddle’s face “painted-on” and wrote “I worry it will degrade over time”. Pickleball Effect’s page states “This page contains affiliate links. We may earn a commission, but our testing and opinions remain neutral.” The USA Pickleball list carries two Invikta entries, “Luxx Control Air Florek Carbon Invikta” (2025-01-22) and “Luxx Control Air Invikta” (2023-06-09); it does not name InfiniGrit and Selkirk does not say which entry is this paddle, so confirm before a sanctioned event.

Specs (Selkirk LUXX Control Air Invikta, Black)

  • Core: 19 mm X7 Thickset Honeycomb (Selkirk)
  • Weight: 7.9–8.3 oz (Selkirk); Pickleball Effect’s unit was 8.05 oz static
  • Face: “Florek Carbon Fiber” with “InfiniGrit” spin texture (Selkirk)
  • Size: 16.4 x 7.5 in; handle 5.35 in; grip circumference 4.25 in (Selkirk); Pickleball Effect lists a 5.5 in grip length
  • Swing weight 113 and twist weight 6.0 (Selkirk); 117 and 5.83 on Pickleball Effect’s test unit
  • Approval: USA Pickleball list, two Invikta entries (2025-01-22 and 2023-06-09), read 2026-10-22

Pros

  • Florek carbon fiber face with an InfiniGrit texture that Pickleball Effect lists as spin and durability that beats raw carbon fiber
  • A plush, dense feel through the center of the face, per Pickleball Effect
  • Two LUXX Control Air Invikta entries on the USA Pickleball list; neither names InfiniGrit

Cons

  • Pickleball Effect rates its spin medium and not spin-first, and calls the grit paint grit
  • A low twist weight and an average sweet spot, per Pickleball Effect
  • The USA Pickleball list does not say which Invikta entry is this paddle

JOOLA Hyperion CFS 16mm

16mm · 16 mm honeycomb core

Players who want an elongated, head-heavy paddle with a maker-named carbon friction surface and who will weigh the disagreement about face wear.

$159.95 from AmazonAs of Oct 23, 16:57 UTC

Verdict

JOOLA’s Ben Johns paddle with the surface JOOLA calls a carbon friction surface; Pickleball Effect’s 2022 review calls it all-court leaning to power, and another tester reports faster face wear.

Evidence: Independently reviewed, exact model. Pickleball Effect: Hyperion CFS 16 (original colours, reviewed October 2022).

JOOLA’s page lists “Surface: carbon friction surface”, and JOOLA’s own blog describes CFS as “a textured surface that uses a longer-lasting, durable Carbon Flex 5 material”, found in the Hyperion CFS 16. JOOLA’s blog lists CFS among its carbon fiber surface types. The Crisp Blue we link is one of two new colourways JOOLA released for the original paddle, which it says has “the same Honeycomb Core and Hyperfoam Edge Wall” as before; the testers below played the original colours. Pickleball Effect’s page offers a JOOLA discount code.

Pickleball Effect (October 20, 2022) writes: “The Hyperion CFS 16 is an all-court paddle that leans towards the power side.” It lists the facing as “Carbon Friction Surface”, explains that “The CFS facing is a carbon fiber facing that is lightly textured. The texture is built into the facing material which means it will last longer”, reports “Good spin rating (1500+ RPMs)” and says “The surface hasn’t worn down at all yet”. Its main drawback is “extra head heavy design”.

Dash Pickleball (August 4, 2023; in its Vatic Pro Prism review, which lists a discount code) disagrees about wear: “Their paddle faces also wear out quickly, resulting in prematurely diminished spin rates.” It adds “I’ve personally broken four Hyperion CFS paddles, and it was never due to extreme events.” The two reviews were published about ten months apart and give different durability accounts, so treat the face-wear question as open. The USA Pickleball list carries several Hyperion entries; the one named for the 16mm Carbon Friction Surface is “Ben Johns Hyperion Carbon Friction Surface 16mm” (2022-04-01).

Specs (JOOLA Hyperion CFS, 16mm, Crisp Blue)

  • Core: 16 mm honeycomb core with a Hyperfoam edge wall (JOOLA); JOOLA’s spec field also reads “Thermoformed”
  • Weight: 8.4 oz average (JOOLA); Pickleball Effect lists 8.4 oz, “head heavy”
  • Face: “carbon friction surface” (JOOLA)
  • Size: 16.5 x 7.5 in; grip length 5.5 in; grip circumference 4.25 in (JOOLA)
  • Approval: USA Pickleball list, “Ben Johns Hyperion Carbon Friction Surface 16mm”, added 2022-04-01 (read 2026-10-22)

Pros

  • Carbon friction surface that Pickleball Effect describes as lightly textured carbon fiber with the texture built in
  • Pickleball Effect found good control and feel despite what it calls a bouncy face
  • Listed by USA Pickleball

Cons

  • An extra head-heavy design, per Pickleball Effect
  • Dash Pickleball reports faster face wear and handle breakage on its Hyperion CFS paddles
  • The reviews are from 2022 and 2023 and cover the original colours

Six Zero Coral Widebody 16mm

Players who want a widebody shape with a maker-named raw carbon face and a softer foam-core feel, and who accept a lower power ceiling.

$200.00 from AmazonAs of Oct 23, 18:52 UTC

Verdict

Six Zero’s widebody Coral with a Diamond Tough raw carbon fiber face over a floating foam core; FORWRD says the widebody has the largest sweet spot of the three Coral shapes.

Evidence: Independently reviewed, exact model. FORWRD: Coral 16mm Widebody, Hybrid and Elongated.

Six Zero’s page lists the face material as “Diamond Tough Raw Carbon Fiber” over a “Tectonic Core with ProPulsion Foam”, and claims Diamond Tough “outperforms traditional raw carbon by more than four times”. That is the maker’s claim. FORWRD (updated September 2026) tested the three Coral shapes; it makes bags, says “We don’t sell paddles” and earns commissions on affiliate links, and received no free products. It writes “Widebody gives you the largest sweet spot of the three”, “Six Zero’s Diamond Tough is a carbon fiber surface with a diamond-pattern micro-texture”, and that spin is “excellent” in the first two to three weeks of heavy use, with texture that “does show some wear after heavy outdoor use (all carbon surfaces do), but held up better than we expected”. It lists a power ceiling below stiffer carbon paddles as a con.

A second source, Pickleball Effect (November 27, 2025), wrote its Coral series review when the series launched in the hybrid shape with the widebody to follow. It writes “The hybrid and widebody shapes stand out the most, offering the best combination of stability and forgiveness.” It discloses: “I was sent this paddle to test, but this review wasn’t paid for or approved by the brand.” It adds that it “may earn a small commission” through its links and a discount code.

FORWRD’s testing is one outlet’s. Amazon showed two left in stock when we checked on 2026-10-22, so re-check availability. Amazon’s listing quotes the hybrid shape’s 16.3 x 7.6 in and 6.7 twist weight; the figures below are Six Zero’s widebody block.

Specs (Six Zero Coral Widebody, 16mm, Ocean Blue)

  • Core: 16 mm Tectonic Core with ProPulsion Foam (Six Zero)
  • Weight: 8.0–8.3 oz (Six Zero)
  • Face: “Diamond Tough Raw Carbon Fiber” (Six Zero)
  • Size: 16 in long, 7.8–8 in wide; handle 5.5 in; grip circumference 4.0–4.13 in (Six Zero)
  • Swing weight 110 and twist weight 7.1 (Six Zero)
  • Approval: USA Pickleball list, “Coral RCD-W 16MM”, added 2025-11-07 (read 2026-10-22); the list also carries “Coral RCD 16MM” and “Coral RCD-E 16MM” and Six Zero’s page does not decode the letters, so confirm which entry is the widebody

Pros

  • Diamond Tough raw carbon fiber face on a floating foam core, named on Six Zero’s page
  • The largest sweet spot of the three Coral shapes, per FORWRD; Pickleball Effect’s series review says the hybrid and widebody stand out most for stability and forgiveness
  • Listed by USA Pickleball (as Coral entries)

Cons

  • A power ceiling below stiffer carbon paddles, per FORWRD
  • FORWRD, from its four-week test of all three Coral shapes, says the texture “does show some wear after heavy outdoor use (all carbon surfaces do), but held up better than we expected”
  • Low stock on Amazon when we checked

Choosing among carbon-faced paddles

Core and thickness change the feel

The nine picks use 14 mm to 19 mm cores. Pickleball Effect says the TKO-C’s 14.3 mm is easier to control than the 12.7 mm, and that the 3X 14mm “is more offensive oriented and offers more pop than the 16mm at the net on counters”. For how thickness changes a paddle in general, see our guide to 14 mm vs 16 mm pickleball paddles.

Weight is stated three ways

The makers publish a range (7.7–8.1 oz for the TKO-C), an average (8.0 oz for the V-Sol Pro and Barrage 4) or nothing (the Prism), and the testers’ own units can sit beyond a maker’s range: Pickleball Effect lists 7.8–8.2 oz for the 3X where CRBN lists 7.8–8.1 oz. Our guide to pickleball paddle weight explains what the figures mean.

Check approval for your events

All nine picks have a USA Pickleball list entry under their own model name or a close one, as dated in the table; the Selkirk, Six Zero and JOOLA entries are explained in their reviews. Search the list for your exact model, thickness and shape before a sanctioned event.

Choosing a brand

Seven brands appear here: CRBN, Vatic Pro, Bread & Butter (Selkirk-owned since 2026-05-12), Paddletek, Selkirk, JOOLA and Six Zero. For how the makers compare, see our guide to good pickleball paddle brands and our answer to what pickleball paddle brand is good.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is a carbon pickleball paddle?

In this guide, a paddle whose maker’s own page names the face as carbon fiber, in the maker’s words: T700 or Toray carbon fiber, PT-700 unidirectional raw carbon, Florek carbon fiber, Diamond Tough raw carbon fiber or a carbon friction surface. JOOLA’s blog describes carbon fiber as “a stiff, durable material”; that is a maker’s description, not a test.

Q. Is a carbon fiber pickleball paddle worth it?

No named tester gives one answer for every paddle here. Pickleball Effect credits Paddletek’s move to raw carbon with “much more spin” on the TKO-C; Pickleheads rates the TKO-C’s spin 9.5/10 and also lists grit that “may erode over time”; Pickleball Effect says the Barrage 4’s “raw carbon grit will wear down over time”. Read each review’s date and the shape the tester played. For spin-focused picks beyond this list, see our best spin pickleball paddles.

Q. Which is better, carbon or graphite?

This guide covers carbon-faced paddles and does not compare the two materials. One named source, the retailer Pickleball Central, writes: “Often used interchangeably with graphite, carbon fiber stands out in its unique composition.” That is a retailer’s blog, not a test. For a broader look at what paddles are made of, see our pickleball materials guide.

Q. Do carbon faces wear out?

Testers differ by paddle. Pickleball Effect says the Hyperion CFS surface “hasn’t worn down at all yet” and the Barrage 4’s grit “will wear down over time”; Dash Pickleball says Hyperion faces “wear out quickly”; FORWRD says all carbon surfaces show some wear after heavy outdoor use. Makers claim longer-lasting textures than raw carbon (Selkirk, Six Zero, JOOLA); those are the makers’ claims.

Q. Is there a budget carbon paddle?

This guide is chosen for the carbon face, not price, and does not rank paddles by cost. The tier markers in the paddle finder show where each sits within this guide only. For paddles chosen for price, see our best budget pickleball paddles, and for what paddles cost in general, how much is a pickleball paddle.

Q. Are these paddles approved for tournaments?

Check the list for your exact model. On 2026-10-22 the USA Pickleball list showed entries as dated in the table; the Selkirk Invikta entries do not name InfiniGrit, and Six Zero does not say which Coral code is the widebody, so confirm those two.

Q. Where do the overall and pro guides fit?

For the broadest list across every style, see our best pickleball paddles; for the paddles pros play, our pro paddle guide.

The bottom line

Final Verdict

The CRBN 3X (check price) is the elongated choice with CRBN’s T700 Toray carbon face, Pickleball Effect’s big-spin pro and its warning about an adjustment period; the Paddletek Bantam TKO-C (check price) is the polymer-core power choice with a PT-700 unidirectional raw carbon face and two testers who disagree on how far its spin goes; the Selkirk LUXX Control Air Invikta (check price) is the control choice with Florek carbon fiber and InfiniGrit, rated medium for spin by Pickleball Effect. The Vatic Pro V-Sol Pro Flash (check price) and Prism Flash (check price) are two different Vatic Pro lines with raw Toray T700 carbon surfaces, and the Loco Elongated (check price), Barrage 4 (check price), Hyperion CFS (check price) and Coral Widebody (check price) each come with a tester’s caveat on feel, grit wear, head weight or power ceiling that the reviews state.

Whichever you choose, treat a tester’s spin or wear remark as a statement about that paddle, that shape and that date, and check the approved list for your exact model before a sanctioned event.
