The short answer
The K-Swiss Men’s Hypercourt Express 2 Indoor is the shoe whose maker says its Durawrap Flex upper gives “no break-in period on all indoor surfaces”; the Skechers Men’s Viper Court Reload has a non-marking outsole its maker built for the pickleball court surface; and the Diadem Court Burst in Black/Gum has what Diadem calls a “non-marking rubber outsole” for indoor and outdoor courts. For women, Women’s Health labelled the New Balance Women’s FuelCell 996v6 its indoor pick.
Our verdict
Our Top Picks: Indoor Pickleball Shoes
This guide only includes a shoe if its maker’s own page names it for indoor courts (an indoor label, or a gum or non-marking outsole) or if a named tester recommends it for indoor play or after testing it mostly indoors, and each review quotes which. An outdoor-only shoe, or a shoe whose only indoor wording comes from a shop’s sales copy, did not make the list.
Every link goes to one exact size and colour, named in the review, as sold on Amazon when we checked in October 2026. Where the seller is neither Amazon nor the brand, the review names it, and sellers rotate by size, so read the listing before you buy. If you also play outside, our best outdoor pickleball shoes cover the other court type, and our guide to pickleball shoes covers every kind; the men’s and women’s pages go further by gender, and tennis shoes for pickleball has its own roundup.

New Balance FuelCell 996v6Indoor-court New BalanceHard indoor courts, tested mostly indoors, non-marking outsole, women'sNot stated on the listing$99.71
Evidence: Women's Health's editors tested the 996v6; its text names no size or colour, and its Amazon link is this women's pickleball listing family; WearTesters also reviewed the 996v6 (https://weartesters.com/new-balance-996v6-performance-review/) from a list its author says was tested 80-90% indoors on dedicated pickleball courts; gender, size and colour not stated
Skechers Viper Court ProPickleball-court-tested SkechersTested mostly indoors, durable outsoleNot stated on the listing$111.55 Prime
Evidence: WearTesters' test names no size or colour; the indoor basis is the list author's reply that the list's shoes were tested 80-90% indoors on dedicated pickleball courts, not gym floors; Skechers no longer lists this original version

K-Swiss Pickleball SupremePickleball-built K-SwissIndoor and outdoor, women'sM$124.95
Evidence: Women's Health's editors tested the Pickleball Supreme; its text names no size and its Amazon link is the women's pair in Angel Blue/Sheer Lilac, not Egret/Patina Green
Which indoor shoe for which player
- A maker’s own indoor label. K-Swiss names two of its shoes “Indoor” and says so on its pages: “no break-in period on all indoor surfaces” for the Hypercourt Express 2 Indoor, and a gum rubber outsole “for all indoor sports athletes” for the Ultrashot Light Indoor. Picks: K-Swiss Men’s Hypercourt Express 2 Indoor, K-Swiss Women’s Ultrashot Light Indoor.
- Non-marking outsoles. Skechers calls the Viper Court Reload’s outsole “non-marking”, Diadem calls the Court Burst’s “non-marking”, and New Balance’s listing for the FuelCell 996v6 says “Non-marking outsole”. Ask your venue what it accepts. Picks: Skechers Men’s Viper Court Reload, Diadem Court Burst, New Balance Women’s FuelCell 996v6.
- Tested mostly indoors, or picked for indoor courts. WearTesters’ list of the best pickleball shoes of 2025 includes the Skechers Viper Court Pro, the New Balance Coco CG1 and the New Balance 996v6. Asked by a reader for an indoor list, its author, Jalique Gabay, replied on 23 March 2025: “All shoes that made this list were tested 80-90% indoors on dedicated pickleball court surfaces, which are nearly identical to outdoor pickleball courts when thinking about how the shoe performs. I understand many areas still rely on basketball courts for indoor pickleball, but since the shoes are tested on surfaces made for pickleball inside and outside, an “indoor” list wouldn’t look any different than this list.” So the testing was mostly indoors on pickleball court surfaces, not on gym or basketball floors. Women’s Health writes of the FuelCell 996v6 “especially for hard indoor courts”. Picks: Skechers Men’s Viper Court Pro, New Balance Coco CG1, New Balance Women’s FuelCell 996v6.
- Indoor and outdoor. Diadem says the Court Burst outsole gives “reliable grip on indoor and outdoor courts”, and Women’s Health labels the Pickleball Supreme “Best For Indoor and Outdoor Courts”. If you play outside too, see our best outdoor pickleball shoes. Picks: Diadem Court Burst, K-Swiss Women’s Pickleball Supreme.
- Women’s pairs. Three picks are women’s models: the Ultrashot Light Indoor, FuelCell 996v6 and Pickleball Supreme. The Diadem Court Burst and New Balance Coco CG1 are sold in unisex sizing. Picks: K-Swiss Women’s Ultrashot Light Indoor, New Balance Women’s FuelCell 996v6, K-Swiss Women’s Pickleball Supreme.
- Wide feet. No linked pair is sold as a men’s wide. The New Balance Coco CG1 is unisex-sized: Amazon’s size menu reads “9.5 Wide Women/8 Men” and its title “Men 8 / Women 9.5”. Our guides to men’s wide pickleball shoes and women’s extra-wide pickleball shoes cover shoes sold in wide widths.
How we narrowed the field
How this guide was built
built from manufacturer documentation, published third-party reviews and owner reports; we have not tested these products ourselves.
What each shoe had to pass
- An indoor source, quoted. Either the maker’s own page names the shoe for indoor courts (an indoor label, or a gum or non-marking outsole), or a named tester recommends it for indoor play or after testing it mostly indoors. A shoe with only outdoor wording, or only a shop’s sales copy, did not qualify.
- A court shoe with a court outsole. No running or walking shoes. A volleyball or tennis shoe is included only where a maker or a named source ties it to indoor or pickleball play, and the review says so.
- An Amazon listing for one exact size and colour, new, in stock and with the buy box when we checked, priced at or below the maker’s list price where the maker publishes one. Sellers other than Amazon or the brand are named in the review.
- Court type and outsole as stated. We give the maker’s wording and write “not published” or “not stated” where nobody states it.
- Weight only with its size and source. None of the makers’ pages we could read gave a weight for the linked size, so the guide gives no weights and ranks nothing by weight.
Where the evidence comes from
Where the evidence comes from
Each review has an evidence line. “Same series” means a publication tested another size, colour, gender or version of the model, or did not say which one it tested (the review says which). “Maker specs” means we found no independent test and the indoor wording is the maker’s. Sources used: the makers’ own pages, linked in each review; Women’s Health’s pickleball shoe list, whose editors say they tested shoes and which says it may earn commission from its links; Verywell Fit’s pickleball shoe test, in which players in Florida wore shoes for over a month, mostly outdoors, and which says it may receive compensation if you click its links; WearTesters’ list of the best pickleball shoes of 2025 and its individual reviews, by Jalique Gabay, whose author says the listed shoes were tested mostly indoors on dedicated pickleball courts and which says it may earn a commission from its links; PickleRage, which operates indoor courts and is not a shop; and letspickleball’s guide to wood gym floors, a content site with a shoe finder. New Balance’s website did not load for our tools, and Skechers no longer has a page for the original Viper Court Pro; the review says when a figure comes from a listing or a search snippet instead.
Detailed Reviews
K-Swiss Men’s Hypercourt Express 2 Indoor, Indoor-labelled K-Swiss
K-Swiss Hypercourt Express 2 Indoor
A man who plays on indoor surfaces, wants a maker-labelled indoor shoe from a major brand, and accepts that the evidence is the maker's wording.
$130.00 from AmazonAs of Oct 24, 00:43 UTCK-Swiss’s product page is titled “HYPERCOURT EXPRESS 2 INDOOR” and describes the model as “a lightweight, breathable tennis shoe”; it adds “Additionally, the model introduces Durawrap Flex, giving the shoe more support with no break-in period on all indoor surfaces.” K-Swiss files it with its tennis shoes, not its pickleball range. K-Swiss’s Amazon listing, sold by K-Swiss, is titled “K-Swiss Men’s Hypercourt Express 2 Indoor Tennis, Pickleball, Racquetball Shoe”, and its bullets describe a high-density Aosta 7.0 rubber outsole, a 180-degree Plantar Support Chassis for midfoot stability, Surgelite cushioning and Durawrap Flex. Neither page says gum or non-marking, and neither publishes a weight. The listing we link is a size 11 M in White/Red.
We found no independent test of the Indoor edition, so the indoor wording is K-Swiss’s alone. This is a tennis shoe that K-Swiss’s listing also labels for pickleball: our guide to wearing tennis shoes for pickleball covers the wider question, and our tennis and pickleball shoe roundup covers the non-indoor versions.
Verdict
A tennis shoe whose maker’s own page says it has no break-in period on all indoor surfaces and labels it Indoor, with no independent test found.
Evidence: No independent test; maker specs. Source: K-Swiss’s own page.
Specs (men’s size 11 M, White/Red)
- Court: all indoor surfaces (K-Swiss’s page)
- Widths: M (medium) in the listing title
- Weight: not published by K-Swiss
- Outsole: Aosta 7.0 rubber compound, high density (K-Swiss’s listing); gum not stated
- Midsole: Surgelite cushioning (K-Swiss’s listing)
- Toe protection: Durawrap Flex upper (K-Swiss)
- Warranty: not published on the pages we read
Pros
- K-Swiss’s own page names all indoor surfaces and labels the shoe Indoor
- A 180-degree Plantar Support Chassis for midfoot stability, per K-Swiss’s listing
- Durawrap Flex upper with no break-in period, per K-Swiss
- Sold by K-Swiss itself
Cons
- A tennis shoe on K-Swiss’s own site, filed outside its pickleball range
- No independent test found, so the evidence is the maker’s own
- No gum or non-marking outsole wording and no published weight
Who should buy it
A man who plays on indoor surfaces, wants a maker-labelled indoor shoe from a major brand, and accepts that the evidence is the maker’s wording.
K-Swiss Women’s Ultrashot Light Indoor, Gum-sole K-Swiss
K-Swiss Ultrashot Light Indoor
A woman who plays on indoor floors, wants a gum rubber outsole from the maker's own wording, and accepts that no independent test exists.
$90.00 from AmazonAs of Oct 24, 00:43 UTCK-Swiss’s women’s product page says “The Ultrashot Light Indoor is the newest edition to the Indoor family.” and “With the features of being a lightweight and comfortable shoe, the Ultrashot Light Indoor uses gum rubber outsole for excellent traction on court.” It adds “For all indoor sports athletes, the Ultrashot Light Indoor is an ideal shoe for stability, comfort, and a fresh upper design.” K-Swiss’s page for the men’s version calls the same shoe “Ultrashot TR Indoor” in two sentences, so we quote the women’s page. K-Swiss’s Amazon listing, sold by K-Swiss, is titled “K-Swiss Women’s Ultrashot Light Indoor Tennis Shoe” and lists DragGuard 7.0 at the high-wear areas of the toe and heel, a 180-degree Plantar Support Chassis and Surgelite cushioning. The listing we link is a size 8 M in Egret/White/Whitecap Gray.
We found no independent test, so the indoor and gum-rubber wording is K-Swiss’s alone. K-Swiss lists the shoe as a tennis shoe; its men’s Amazon listing also says “tennis and pickleball”, but we link the women’s pair.
Verdict
A tennis shoe that its maker’s own page calls Indoor, with a gum rubber outsole and wording for all indoor sports athletes; no independent test found.
Evidence: No independent test; maker specs. Source: K-Swiss’s own page.
Specs (women’s size 8 M, Egret/White/Whitecap Gray)
- Court: indoor (K-Swiss’s page)
- Widths: M (medium) in the listing title
- Weight: not published for the women’s shoe
- Outsole: gum rubber (K-Swiss’s women’s page); DragGuard 7.0 at toe and heel (listing)
- Midsole: Surgelite cushioning (K-Swiss’s listing)
- Toe protection: Durawrap Flex upper (K-Swiss’s listing)
- Warranty: not published on the pages we read
Pros
- A gum rubber outsole that K-Swiss’s own page states for an indoor shoe
- Wording for all indoor sports athletes on K-Swiss’s page
- DragGuard 7.0 at the toe and heel, per K-Swiss’s listing
- Sold by K-Swiss itself
Cons
- A tennis shoe on K-Swiss’s own listing, with no independent test found
- K-Swiss’s men’s and women’s pages name the shoe differently (“Ultrashot TR Indoor” on the men’s page)
- No published weight
Who should buy it
A woman who plays on indoor floors, wants a gum rubber outsole from the maker’s own wording, and accepts that no independent test exists.
Skechers Men’s Viper Court Reload, Non-marking slip-in
A man who plays indoors, wants a non-marking pickleball shoe that slips on, and accepts that the court wording is the maker's.
$90.00 from AmazonAs of Oct 24, 00:43 UTCSkechers’ product page says “This machine washable style is complete with a non-marking Goodyear® Performance Outsole built for increased durability and control on the pickleball court surface.” It describes the shoe as “created specifically for the movements of pickleball”, with Hands Free Slip-ins and a Relaxed Fit, and lists the medium width in White / Navy. Skechers’ pickleball guide says of the Goodyear Performance Outsole rubber “The rubber is engineered to stand up to the abrasive wear of both indoor and outdoor court surfaces.” Skechers publishes no weight for the Reload on the pages we read. The Amazon listing we link, sold by Amazon.com, is a size 11 in White/Navy.
We found no independent test of the Reload, so the non-marking and court wording is Skechers’ alone. Skechers’ guide also says the Reload’s wider toe box gives room for foot splay; that is a Relaxed Fit sales description, not a measured width.
Verdict
A pickleball slip-in whose maker’s own page calls the outsole non-marking and built for the pickleball court surface; no independent test found.
Evidence: No independent test; maker specs. Source: Skechers’ own page.
Specs (men’s size 11, White/Navy)
- Court: pickleball court surface; indoor and outdoor wear per Skechers’ guide
- Widths: Medium (Skechers’ page)
- Weight: not published by Skechers
- Outsole: non-marking Goodyear Performance Outsole (Skechers)

- Warranty: not published on the pages we read
Pros
- A non-marking Goodyear Performance Outsole, per Skechers’ own page
- Skechers says the outsole rubber is engineered for both indoor and outdoor court surfaces
- Slip-in construction with a Relaxed Fit, per Skechers
- Sold by Amazon.com
Cons
- No independent test found, so the evidence is the maker’s
- Skechers publishes no weight and no outsole warranty on the pages we read
- A slip-in design suits some feet and not others; our sources give no measured width
Who should buy it
A man who plays indoors, wants a non-marking pickleball shoe that slips on, and accepts that the court wording is the maker’s.
New Balance Women’s FuelCell 996v6, Indoor-court New Balance
A woman who plays on hard indoor courts and wants a shoe a named outlet picked for them, with the caveat about the test.
$99.71 from AmazonAs of Oct 24, 00:43 UTCWomen’s Health labels the FuelCell 996v6 “Best Indoor Pickleball Shoe” and writes “It might not look like your typical pickleball or tennis shoe, but trust us—this one works smarter than your average sneaker, especially for hard indoor courts.” It adds “The Ndurance outsole, a tough rubber that reinforces areas that show wear and tear easily, provides reliable traction and support without scuffing up the court.” Its list says its editors tested the shoes, but it does not name a size or colour; its link goes to the women’s pickleball version of the 996v6 on Amazon, the family we link. Women’s Health also notes the shoe rides a little high and suggests taller socks. New Balance’s own Amazon listing, which calls it a “Pickleball Tennis Shoe”, states a “Non-marking outsole” and “NDurance rubber outsole technology”.
New Balance’s website did not load for our tools, so the maker’s page is not quoted. The Amazon buy box on the linked size 9 in NB 102 White/Deep End was held by Tennis Warehouse, a tennis retailer, on one read and by a third-party seller, Vincent & Jules LLC, on another; sellers rotate, so check the seller on the listing.
A second tester: WearTesters‘ Jalique Gabay reviewed the 996v6 (4 December 2024), which is also on WearTesters’ pickleball list, and writes “Players looking for a functional pickleball shoe that can handle a good chunk wear and tear throughout the year should enjoy the 996v6, especially with multiple width options available.” The list’s author says its shoes were tested 80 to 90 percent indoors on dedicated pickleball court surfaces, which they call nearly identical to outdoor pickleball courts, not on basketball-court floors (their full reply is quoted above). The review does not say which gender’s pair, size or colour they wore, and they note that in their experience New Balance court outsoles wear down slightly faster than other brands’, while calling the 996v6 still a viable option for durability and performance. WearTesters notes the 996v6 comes in distinct pickleball and tennis variants and does not say which the listing we link matches.
Verdict
A New Balance pickleball-and-tennis shoe that Women’s Health labelled its indoor pick for hard indoor courts and WearTesters reviewed from a mostly-indoor pickleball test, with a non-marking outsole stated on New Balance’s own listing; neither test names this exact size and colour.
Evidence: Independently reviewed, same series. Women’s Health: New Balance FuelCell 996v6, women’s pickleball version per its Amazon link; size and colour not stated.
Specs (women’s size 9, NB 102 White/Deep End)
- Court: hard indoor courts (Women’s Health)
- Widths: not stated on the listing (New Balance sells wide versions separately)
- Weight: not published on the pages we could read
- Outsole: NDurance rubber, non-marking (New Balance’s listing)
- Midsole: FuelCell foam (New Balance’s listing)
- Toe protection: NDure upper (New Balance’s listing)
- Warranty: not published on the pages we read
Pros
- Labelled the indoor pick by Women’s Health, an outlet that says it tested its shoes
- A non-marking outsole stated on New Balance’s own listing
- FuelCell foam and an NDurance outsole, per the listing
- Wide versions sold as separate listings, per the Amazon variant table
Cons
- Women’s Health says it rides a little high
- Neither the Women’s Health nor the WearTesters test names a size or colour
- No maker page quoted: newbalance.com refused our tools
Who should buy it
A woman who plays on hard indoor courts and wants a shoe a named outlet picked for them, with the caveat about the test.
Skechers Men’s Viper Court Pro, Pickleball-court-tested Skechers
A man who plays on indoor pickleball courts, wants a shoe a named tester wore mostly indoors on pickleball surfaces, and accepts that no maker page is quoted.
$111.55 from AmazonAs of Oct 24, 00:43 UTCWearTesters‘ Jalique Gabay reviewed the Viper Court Pro (24 May 2023) and writes “The Skechers Viper Court Pro utilizes a Goodyear rubber outsole patterned in a thick herringbone that holds up well (both in wear and performance) even after months of playing on gritty pickleball surfaces.” On fit they write “Another staple of the Skechers brand is the relaxed fit upper which allows just enough wiggle room in the toe box to splay on quick bursts forward to the kitchen line.” and adds that the shoe “is also available in wide options”. The shoe is on WearTesters’ pickleball list, whose entry calls it very durable whatever the surface, and whose author says the listed shoes were tested 80 to 90 percent indoors on dedicated pickleball court surfaces, which they call nearly identical to outdoor pickleball courts, not on basketball-court floors (their full reply is quoted above). The review does not say which size or colour they wore.
Skechers no longer sells this original Viper Court Pro on its own site (its old page now leads to a sold-out notice), so no maker page is quoted; the later Viper Court Pro 2.0 is a different shoe that this guide does not link. The Amazon listing, titled “Skechers Men’s Viper Court Pro Pickleball Sneaker”, names a Goodyear Gold compound outsole and an Ultra Go foam midsole; it does not say non-marking and gives no weight. The listing we link is a size 10 in Black, sold by Amazon.com.
Verdict
A pickleball shoe that a named tester found durable on pickleball surfaces, from a list whose author says its shoes were tested mostly indoors on dedicated pickleball courts; the maker no longer lists this original version, and the test names no size or colour.
Evidence: Independently reviewed, same series. WearTesters: Skechers Viper Court Pro (original), men’s per the reviewer; size and colour not stated; WearTesters’ list author says the list’s shoes were tested 80-90% indoors on dedicated pickleball court surfaces.
Specs (men’s size 10, Black)
- Court: dedicated pickleball courts, mostly indoors (WearTesters’ list)
- Widths: not stated on the listing; wide options exist (WearTesters)
- Weight: not published here
- Outsole: Goodyear rubber in a thick herringbone (WearTesters); Goodyear Gold compound (Amazon listing)
- Midsole: Ultra Go foam (Amazon listing; Skechers’ page for this model no longer loads)
- Toe protection: rubberized reinforcements around the toe (WearTesters)
- Warranty: not published on the pages we read
Pros
- Reviewed by WearTesters, whose list author says its shoes were tested mostly indoors on pickleball courts
- A Goodyear rubber outsole that held up after months on gritty pickleball surfaces, per WearTesters
- A Relaxed Fit upper with room in the toe box, per WearTesters
- Sold by Amazon.com
Cons
- Skechers no longer sells this original version on its own site, so no maker page is quoted
- WearTesters’ tester wanted a little more cushioning underfoot
- The listing does not say non-marking, and the test names no size or colour
Who should buy it
A man who plays on indoor pickleball courts, wants a shoe a named tester wore mostly indoors on pickleball surfaces, and accepts that no maker page is quoted.
Diadem Court Burst, Non-marking Diadem
Black/Gum, size 10 Women/8.5 Men
A player of either gender who wants a non-marking outsole from a maker that names indoor and outdoor courts, and who will read the seller name before buying.
$149.95 from AmazonAs of Oct 24, 00:43 UTCDiadem’s product page says “The high-abrasion rubber outsole grips hard courts without marking, making the Court Burst a go-to pickleball shoe and tennis shoe for both indoor and outdoor play.” Its feature list reads “High-abrasion, non-marking rubber outsole: reliable grip on indoor and outdoor courts, with durable tread in high-wear zones”. Diadem lists Black/Gum among the colourways in unisex sizing, with men’s and women’s sizes shown together, and lists a Wide (2E) only in White and Navy/White. The listing we link is Black/Gum in size 10 Women/8.5 Men, sold by M Emporium, a third-party seller with Amazon shipping.
Verywell Fit tested the Court Burst with a tester who plays twice a week on an outdoor court, and writes “Diadem’s Court Burst Pickleball Shoes are so comfortable that our tester looked forward to putting them on before every game.” The same entry lists the shoe’s “non-marking sole” among the features it appreciates. It does not say which colour or size they wore, and its test was outdoors, so the indoor wording is Diadem’s. Our tennis and pickleball roundup links the white pair of this shoe for its tennis-and-pickleball use.
Verdict
A pickleball-and-tennis shoe whose maker’s own page calls the outsole non-marking and the shoe suited to indoor and outdoor play, with an outdoor tester’s mention of the non-marking sole; the test is not of this exact colour and was outdoors.
Evidence: Independently reviewed, same series. Verywell Fit: Court Burst, outdoor tester; colour and size not stated.
Specs (size 10 Women/8.5 Men, Black/Gum)
- Court: indoor and outdoor courts (Diadem’s page)
- Widths: Standard; Diadem lists a Wide (2E) only in White and Navy/White
- Weight: not published for this size (Verywell Fit’s figures carry no size and are not used)
- Outsole: high-abrasion, non-marking rubber (Diadem)
- Midsole: cushioned EVA midsole and heel; Rebound X and Pro Stance X (Diadem)
- Toe protection: Max Shield toe guard (Diadem)
- Warranty: not published on the pages we read
Pros
- A non-marking rubber outsole that Diadem says is for indoor and outdoor courts
- Verywell Fit’s entry notes the non-marking sole and toe guard
- A Max Shield toe guard, per Diadem
- Black/Gum colour with men’s and women’s sizes on one listing
Cons
- Verywell Fit’s test was on an outdoor court and did not name this colour
- Sold by a third-party seller, M Emporium, on the day we read the listing
- No weight published for this size
Who should buy it
A player of either gender who wants a non-marking outsole from a maker that names indoor and outdoor courts, and who will read the seller name before buying.
New Balance Coco CG1, Pickleball-or-tennis New Balance
A player on indoor pickleball courts who likes a higher-cut shoe, fits the unisex size we link, and accepts a third-party seller.
$130.47 from AmazonAs of Oct 24, 00:43 UTCWearTesters’ list of the best pickleball shoes of 2025, by Jalique Gabay, includes the Coco CG1 and says “The New Balance Coco CG1 is simply a high-performance shoe that will do well on all courts.” and “If you don’t mind higher-cut shoes or think that you could get used to them, we absolutely recommend the New Balance Coco CG1 as a pickleball or tennis shoe.” The list’s author says its shoes were tested 80 to 90 percent indoors on dedicated pickleball court surfaces, which they call nearly identical to outdoor pickleball courts, not on basketball-court floors (their full reply is quoted above). The entry names no size or colour.
Amazon lists the shoe as “New Balance Unisex FuelCell Coco V1 Hard Court Tennis Shoe” with model number UCHCOCOC, the style code that sneaker retailers such as Flight Club give for the Coco CG1 in White/Eclipse/Arctic Fox. Its bullets name FuelCell foam, an Energy Arc carbon fiber plate and a “Full-length Ndurance outsole”; they do not say non-marking or gum. New Balance’s website did not load for our tools, so the maker’s page is not quoted. The listing we link is unisex-sized, a men’s 8 and women’s 9.5 (Amazon’s size menu reads “9.5 Wide Women/8 Men”), in White/Eclipse/Arctic Fox, sold by Voadera, a third-party seller, with Amazon shipping; one pair was left when we checked, and the other sizes we read were unavailable.
Verdict
A New Balance shoe that WearTesters recommends as a pickleball or tennis shoe, from a list whose author says its shoes were tested mostly indoors on dedicated pickleball courts; the listing calls it a hard-court shoe, no maker page is quoted, and stock is thin.
Evidence: Independently reviewed, same series. WearTesters: New Balance Coco CG1, on WearTesters’ list; size, colour and gender not stated; the list author says the list’s shoes were tested 80-90% indoors on dedicated pickleball court surfaces.

Cons
- A higher-cut shoe, as WearTesters notes
- Sold by a third-party seller, Voadera, with one pair left when we checked
- No maker page quoted (newbalance.com refused our tools), and the listing does not say non-marking
Who should buy it
A player on indoor pickleball courts who likes a higher-cut shoe, fits the unisex size we link, and accepts a third-party seller.
K-Swiss Women’s Pickleball Supreme, Pickleball-built K-Swiss
A woman who plays on both indoor and outdoor courts, wants a pickleball-built K-Swiss, and will size up as K-Swiss advises.
$124.95 from AmazonAs of Oct 24, 00:43 UTCWomen’s Health labels the K-Swiss Pickleball Supreme “Best For Indoor and Outdoor Courts” and writes “Combined with a sturdy tread pattern, it provides reliable traction on outdoor and indoor courts while maintaining grip over time.” Its editors say they tested the shoes; it links the women’s Pickleball Supreme in a different colour (out of stock on Amazon when we checked), and it does not name a size or colour tested. K-Swiss’s product page names a DragGuard 7.0 outsole, a molded rubber outsole and a CMEVA midsole, and names no indoor wording. K-Swiss’s Amazon listing says “We recommend ordering a 1/2 size up from your normal street shoe size for best fit”. The listing we link, sold by K-Swiss, is a size 9 M in Egret/Patina Green. What makes a shoe an indoor shoe
The sources we read describe the difference in outsoles. PickleRage, which operates indoor courts, writes: “Indoor court shoes have softer, non-marking rubber soles to maximize traction on gym floors, while outdoor models feature tougher outsoles that withstand rougher surfaces like asphalt or concrete.” Pickleball Warehouse’s buying guide, from a shop, writes “An indoor pickleball shoe will feature a softer outsole rubber compound, sometimes referred to as “gum rubber”, which provides both good traction on laminate flooring and also complements the midsole’s level of cushioning.” Whether a tennis shoe is enough is a separate question, answered in can you wear tennis shoes for pickleball; for every kind of pickleball shoe, see our main pickleball shoes guide. Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What are the best indoor pickleball shoes?
It depends on your floor and feet. The shoes in this guide are the ones where a maker or named tester points to indoor play: for a maker’s own indoor label, the K-Swiss Men’s Hypercourt Express 2 Indoor or the K-Swiss Women’s Ultrashot Light Indoor; for a non-marking outsole, the Skechers Men’s Viper Court Reload or the Diadem Court Burst; for a named outlet’s indoor pick, the New Balance Women’s FuelCell 996v6; for a named tester’s mostly-indoor test on pickleball courts, the Skechers Men’s Viper Court Pro or the New Balance Coco CG1. None is a test result of ours.
Q. Are basketball shoes good for indoor pickleball?
Sources that name them say they can work, with caveats. pickleball.com’s help article (last updated 7 July 2026), which points readers to Pickleball Central’s shoes, says “For occasional play, they’ll do fine; for regular play, a dedicated court shoe is a better long-term investment.” and “Indoor-focused sole material: Most basketball shoe soles are designed for indoor hardwood courts and wear down quickly on rough outdoor asphalt or concrete.” Ben at bepickleballer, writing from their own use on 16 January 2025, says “Indoor basketball shoes usually work well for indoor pickleball courts, while outdoor basketball shoes can handle the textured surfaces of outdoor pickleball courts.” and that they later stopped using their basketball shoes for pickleball. In an r/Pickleball thread from early 2026 about school-gym floors (its title names high school gyms, not dedicated indoor pickleball courts), one reply reads “Get a pair of basketball shoes. I like under armor” and another “Shoes for basketball, volleyball or badminton would all work well.” Those are owner opinions, not tests, and none of these sources is a test of a specific basketball shoe, so we picked none.
Q. Do indoor pickleball shoes need non-marking soles?
pickleball.com’s best-shoes article writes “Non-marking sole: Required for most indoor courts, with herringbone or modified herringbone tread that grips well without marking gym floors.” That describes venues in general; ask yours, because policies are the venue’s. letspickleball, a content site, adds “Confirm “non-marking” on the outsole or spec sheet. Clear/translucent rubber is usually safe; darker solids can be hit-or-miss.” The picks above name a non-marking or gum outsole, or an indoor label, in the sources quoted in each review.
Q. Can I wear outdoor pickleball shoes indoors?
The sources disagree. ASICS writes “For indoor players, the tough rubber sole of outdoor shoes is likely to leave scuff marks on the hardwood court.” and Pickleball Warehouse’s buying guide writes “We do not advocate wearing outdoor court shoes on a wood laminate flooring because traction is less than ideal.” A different guide from the same shop, on outdoor courts, writes “If you intend to play both outdoors and indoors, we recommend using an outdoor shoe for both.” Going the other way, Pickleball Warehouse writes that “using an indoor shoe on an outdoor court will deliver good traction, but may result in the outsole wearing quickly, and depending on tread pattern, may even feel a bit too sticky.” For outdoor courts see our best outdoor pickleball shoes.
Q. Are volleyball or tennis shoes good for indoor pickleball?
pickleball.com writes “While several brands now make purpose-built pickleball shoes, many quality tennis and volleyball court shoes work just as well, since all three sports share similar lateral-movement demands.” None of the picks is a volleyball shoe. The two K-Swiss Indoor shoes are tennis shoes on K-Swiss’s own site, and WearTesters recommends the New Balance Coco CG1 “as a pickleball or tennis shoe”; each review gives the sourcing. See can you wear tennis shoes for pickleball and our tennis and pickleball shoe roundup.
Q. Which indoor pickleball shoes are good for wide feet?
No linked pair is sold as a men’s wide. The New Balance Coco CG1 is unisex-sized: Amazon’s size menu reads “9.5 Wide Women/8 Men” and its title “Men 8 / Women 9.5”. WearTesters says the Skechers Viper Court Pro “is also available in wide options”, though the pair we link is not one, and Diadem lists a Wide (2E) of the Court Burst only in White and Navy/White, which is not the linked Black/Gum. For shoes sold in wide widths, see our guides to men’s wide pickleball shoes and women’s extra-wide pickleball shoes.
The bottom line
Final Verdict
For a man who plays indoors, the K-Swiss Men’s Hypercourt Express 2 Indoor (check price) has the maker’s own indoor label and wording, the Skechers Men’s Viper Court Reload (check price) has a non-marking outsole its maker built for the pickleball court surface, and the Skechers Men’s Viper Court Pro (check price) is on WearTesters’ list, whose author says its shoes were tested mostly indoors on dedicated pickleball courts. For women, the K-Swiss Women’s Ultrashot Light Indoor (check price) has a gum rubber outsole per its maker, the New Balance Women’s FuelCell 996v6 (check price) was Women’s Health’s indoor pick and is on the same WearTesters list, and the K-Swiss Women’s Pickleball Supreme (check price) was labelled for indoor and outdoor courts by Women’s Health. The Diadem Court Burst (check price) has a non-marking outsole its maker says is for indoor and outdoor courts, and the unisex New Balance Coco CG1 (check price) is one WearTesters recommends as a pickleball or tennis shoe, sold by a third-party seller with thin stock. Most of the indoor wording is the makers’ own, and we found no independent test of several picks; the reviews say which. Prices and stock change; the price on each Amazon listing is what applies.
